Subject: Bad and good news today



Just got word that the Oshkosh School District has decided that they can not support the efforts of having a Miss Wisconsin pageant staged at the Oshkosh West High School, as they did not make exceptions for other groups with or not connected with the high school or the Oshkosh School District.

So, the state pageant in June has been re-scheduled three weeks later in Wisconsin Dells. The contestants (miss and teen) will still come to Oshkosh for housing at host hotels, restaurants, and other matters, however all preliminary competitions, personal interviews with judges (miss and teen) and the traditional Saturday night finals will be held at the Chula Vista Hotel and Resort Park in Wisconsin Dells. Coincidentally, that is the location of the 2021 Miss Wisconsin USA and Miss Wisconsin Teen-USA pageant on May 23, 2021.

Sauk County has a more laxed health policy to allow for events of 300 in facilities and will work closely with the hotel staff than what Winnebago County and the Oshkosh School District.

To make the preliminary nights with a smaller audience, there will be two shows on Wednesday and and two shows on Thursday of what would normally be on show per day. The 12 or whatever number of girls per preliminary show will be divided in half.

The state contestants will be divided in half with those halves of preliminary gals cut into two shows to allow audiences to meet the county orders. Make sense?

Then word has it that people will be told in advance who made top 11 or 10 (on Saturday morning) for only those contestant families and close approved ticketed friends to attend to make the final show audience smaller for only those connected to the semi-finalists. Any one who purchased Saturday finals tickets but their contestant did not make the top 11/ten will be given a refund. There will be no coronation ball, however each of the top 11/ten and runners-up will gather for an online zoom connection for each to say a few words and thanks and then the formal introduction to the four runners-up and Miss Wisconsin/Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen of 2021 (the title year will be 2021 but the local titles remain as 2020).

The Wisconsin teen pageant will be one show with only four people per contestant, no exceptions.

I guess this option with half of the events held in Oshkosh and Wisconsin Dells is better than another year of canceled pageants. I am sure the state board will watch closely how the Miss Wisconsin USA pageant is staged a month earlier at Chula Vista---who asked to have both state pageants held there.

That is the bad news of today, all these pageant changes and the first time since 1962 that Miss Wisconsin will not be officially crowned in Oshkosh.
