Author: they order way more programs than what they need..

This results in having a boatload of programs leftover. The
problem is only magnified when you ask people to pay for them because you have no idea how many folks are willing to pay for them or opt to go without. Doesn't it make more sense to get these programs in the hands of everyone that attends raather than have them be leftover? Who knows -- perhaps there will be someone that is attending for the first time that will be willing to be a sponsor the following year. The program book should be a means of advertising and promoting the competition. Furthermore, say you have a contestant sponsor in the audience, who has already paid $___.00 to sponsor a contestant (which I might add if you have a good number of contestants could completely cover the amount of the scholarships given out). Why should that sponsor have to pay for a program book that includes their advertisement when they've already made a generous contribution to the program? And furthermore, the program books that local produce nowadays (while I realize that it's still a lot of work to put together) are a shell of what they used to be like. Get as much as you can related to pageant expenses donated, but don't expect the patrons to pay for the program books.

>the cost of the auditoriums, AND SCHOLARSHIPS, it's
>tight even with getting things like crowns and sashes
>donated. Those things are just the tip of the iceburg.
>It is perfectly fine to charge for program books,
>especially if they are done well like they are at most
>closed locals.
