Sympathy to Miss Wisconsin 2022 and America 2023, Grace Marie Stanke Vanderhei and her family on the loss of her father, Darrin G. Stanke, who died in Wausau, Wisconsin on Good Friday, April 3, 2026 as result of a bout with cancer three days after his 59th birthday:

At least Darrin was alive and able to see his youngest child, Grace Marie Stanke, become Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen in June 2017; and then Miss Wisconsin (on her second attempt) in June 2022, then her Miss America 2023 victory in Connecticut in December 2022, and then her married to Ridge Vanderhei, a UW-Madison classmate and brother of Miss Wisconsin 2018, Tianna Marie Vanderhei, last August 2025 in Montana.

His wife Jenny Stanke has been the local Miss Wausau Area/Miss Wausau Area's Teen Scholarship pageant director the last three years.

Condolences to the family, who had a funeral service for Darrin on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
