Subject: Remembering Franklin Gail

Condolences to the family of Franklin Page Gail of Kenosha who died at 93 on Friday, December 27, 2019 in Kenosha after a brief illness. Franklin and his father, Arthur Gail, ran their family insurance business for many years in Kenosha, and he was active in community affairs in the city.

In 1959, Franklin was elected president of the local Kenosha Jaycees, and he was the president of the Miss Wisconsin pageant in 1959 and 1960, the first two years when the Miss Wisconsin pageant was staged in Kenosha. Miss Wisconsin was held in Kenosha from 1959 to 1962, before the state pageant moved to Oshkosh in 1963. He had many fond memories of escorting Miss Wisconsin 1959, Mary Alice Fox of Sheboygan and Miss Wisconsin 1960, Karen Marie Fehrenbach of Racine to their respective Miss America pageants in Atlantic City, New Jersey. His first year as state director and escort, Mary Alice placed first runner-up to Miss America 1960.

Franklin was active with his church in Kenosha---and in life in general, even as a nonagenarian. In September 2016, six months after turning 90 years old, he skydived to celebrate his birthday. He was featured in the local Kenosha News of this event, linked here:

While long removed from local and state pageantry, Franklin continued to support the Miss Kenosha and Miss Wisconsin program. We remember Franklin Gail. His funeral at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Kenosha is at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2019. He never had children, but is survived by three sisters in Kenosha, and two step-sons who live in Texas.
