While I realize that they offer a bit more than Ron and Joe did when they were running the Madison program, I still think it's lame that a city the size of Madison only offers a $500.00 scholarship to the winner and $100.00 and $50.00 to the runners-up. Seriously, what is the point of even competing for this. There have to be businesses in the Madison area that they could tap into to increase these amounts. And I find it so ironic that people are willing to shell out thousands of dollars in support of a prospective Democratic nominee, when only 1 person will win that nomination. All the rest of that money that was donated is literally money down the drain. And yet businesses or individuals can't donate 50 or $100.00 to support a program that provides scholarships for young women in college. I realize that it's not easy work, but if you are a director who is "uncomfortable" asking for contributions then you need to assign someone on your committee to do that. If you can't provide a decent scholarship package, I really don't see the point of even staging a competition.
