Hi Charlotte,

Yes I have been to Kinderhook and you are right, we are lucky that it has been taken care of so well. I have seen so many of these types of small cemeteries that are so far gone. It is such a shame.

As far as the stones goes, I am sure that the larger stone there is for William and Elizabeth Seevers and to further confirm that these are indeed their graves, I found a list of grave readings for Kinderhook that was done by Mrs. Charles McCullom and Mrs. Clarence R. Sloan on Sunday, October 14th, 1934. This stone was still readable then.

Two of them on this list read:

William Seevers, born Jan. 29 - 1798, died April (1) ? (1861) ?
Elizabeth, Wife of Wm. Seevers, died Feb. 13 - 1886 aged 85 years, 4 months.

Even though we know that William Seevers died on April 1st, 1867 and not in 1861, these ladies read them the best that they could at the time. Very easy mistake, trust me.

Right behind and on each side of this stone we found two footstones. One was maked "W. S." and the other "E. S.".

Since I believe that these two were marked on the same stone this leaves the question as to the identity of the person whose stone simply reads "Seevers".

I believe that this is the stone of their son John W. Seevers. On another list of Kinderhook readings that was copied by Arthur McKitrick and indexed by Ralph L. Schroeder, there is a mention of a stone here that read:

SEEVERS. W. John DIED OCT. 26, 1873 - AGE, 43 YRS. - 5 M.

Sure, I would appreciate any information on Seevers decsendants that you would be willing to share. Thank you.

Have a nice day.

Mike Hall
