Date Posted: 07:09:49 05/21/06 Sun In reply to: sam 's message, "eeee" on 08:07:20 03/29/06 Wed How to Be Good Question 13 * The ending to the novel is the final chapter. * Final chapter has the point where Katie breaks down. * She needs to talk and tell the people in her life what she feels and how she feels about certain things. * The issue about Brian coming for diner is the cause for this sudden outburst that shocks her family. * You would think that yelling at her children and husband and trying to place blame would break their family apart. * She then goes to talk about he normality or her life and the simple things and changes she has noticed throughout her children and husband and herself. * Again Brian is brought up when her fathers dinner is organized and the chicken means Brian is invited. * After the debacle about the diner she goes on to think about how simple anothers persons life is and relate it to her own difficulties. It seems the maybe she wishes for the simplicity of Vanessa Bells life. * After the spill about Vanessa’s life and the link between Katies emptiness she goes on to talk about how their family seems to work together. * They work together to unclog the drain. This shows that even through their disputes they still share a common link and really do love each other. * This ending perhaps is not what the reader is expecting so in a way it catches you of guard and makes you think.The way she links her life as a metaphor to Vanessa gives the reader an understanding on how Katie feels towards her problems. By also having the fight about the chicken and the teamwork for clogging the drain it shows they do have their rows like many families but deep down they can work together and have fun and love one another. * It gives the reader anothers point of view on the meaning behind good. it leaves the reader with the thought that throughout our live we truly are never meant to be good even through how much we try. Their are moments where we prove we ar good only to be shadowed by the fact we are mere humans and we make mistakes and that is the way we grow and learn.
