My father Fred Garrett is a survivor of the 551st PIB.He was with Lt. Durkee of Co. A Which was nearly wiped out on Jan. 7th 1945. Dad has never talked much about his experience. I recently spoke with Lt. Durkee who stated my Dad was in the 2nd platoon.
I would be interested in anything you could share with me regarding those days in early January 1945 when the 551st ceased to exist.
