I am not a big ration expert but I do know that In addition to the main entree there was an accesorie packet containing a powdered beverage, cookies or crackers. The box also contained a pack of cigarettes.

The actual contents were determined by what meal was contained in the box as well as the date of the rations production. They did change during the course of the war.

Most of the reproduction rations and kits to make them are limited in there accuracy owing to the availability of the contents. The original size can is no longer available and most reenactors use modern sized cans. This in turn changes the dimensions of other components that go in the box.

I would contact Gerry Peterson at http://www.ww2rationtechnologies.com/ and see about ordering one of his kits It should include all the packageing you need for the contents and instructions regarding how to put it all together. His stuff is the best I have seen outside of the real thing.
