Perhaps this will help with jogging someone's memory:

In two separate books an incident involving Melvin was described. It tells about his plane exploding on the tarmac in England just before takeoff to Normandy. He was one of only two men not killed or injured and Melvin managed to force his way onto another plane in order to make the jump. He was killed by shrapnel on June 18, 1944. Medic Fred Morgan remembers coming to his aid under fire, where he, himself, was injured and unable to save Melvin's life. Unfortunately, I have not been able to contact anyone at www.505rct.org in order to see if anyone can help with further information. If you can contact Bob Murphy, or anyone else from the 505th, I would greatly appreciate it if they could contact me. Thanks for all your help thus far.
