Hi Guys,
I'd just like to submit a piece of important info covering vehicles utilized by PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENTS - plse bear in mind that Rifle Companies did NOT have vehicles (ref. T/O 7-37 Feb 17, 1942 + T/O 7-37 Feb 24, 1944 + T/O 7-37 Aug 1, 1944)- Service Companies had a limited number of vehicles, i.e. Sv Co Hqs had 2 Motorcycles Solo Extra Light M1 + 1 Trailer 1/4 Ton + 2 Trailers 1 Ton + 1 Truck 1/4 Ton + 2 Trucks 2 1/2 Ton, Rgtl Hqs Pltn had 6 Hand Carts Utility M3A4 + 2 Trailers 1/4 Ton + 1 Trailer 1 Ton + 2 Trucks 1/4 Ton + 1 Truck 2 1/2 Ton, Tptn Pltn had 50 Motorcycles M1 + 21 Trailers 1/4 Ton + 27 Trailers 1 Ton + 21 Trucks 1/4 Ton + 27 Trucks 2 1/2 Ton (T/O & E 7-33T Dec 16, 1944)- Hqs Co / Abn Div has 1 5-Passenger Medium Sedan + 4 Motorcycles M1 + 37 Trailers 1/4 Ton + 10 Trailers 1 Ton + 45 Trucks 1/4 Ton + 5 Weapons Carriers 3/4 Ton + 10 Trucks 2 1/2 Ton (T/O & E 71-2T Dec 16, 1944) - Rcn Pltn / Abn Div has 12 Motorcycles M1 + 3 Trailers 1/4 Ton + 17 Trucks 1/4 Ton (T/O & E 2-77T Dec 16, 1944) - MP Pltn / Abn Div has 2 Motorcycles Solo + 2 Motorcycles Solo Extra Light M1 + 4 Trailers 1/4 Ton + 17 Trucks 1/4 Ton (T/O & E 19-97T Dec 16, 1944)- Med Det / PIR has 2 Trailers 1/4 Ton + 1 Trailer 1 Ton + 2 Trucks 1/4 Ton + 2 Ambulances 3/4 Ton + 1 Truck 2 1/2 Ton (T/O & E 7-31T Dec 16, 1944)- HQ & HQ Co / PIR has 4 Hand Carts Utility M3A4 - the above T/O & Es should be considered as a basis for examining what vehicles paratroops were supposed to be issued with, of course not everyone followed these rules, furthermore before new/modified Tables were applied, time passed and operations took place, and as we all know 'elite' troops have more 'flexibility' and 'liberty' as far as individual equipment and weapons is concerned ! Nevertheless, you should regard this as a sound base to work from - and this should enable you to reflect a more or less correct (and limited) number of vehicles available with AIRBORNE units - Alain
