Sounds like a heck of a trip John;

We would to here more about it if you like and would also love to have the photo for the website. Thanks for the generous offer!

I apologize for the incomplete nature of the account on our website. It covers the operational plan for "HUSKY I" more than the actual prosecution thereof. When time permits this wll be updated with more information about what actually happened.

The American portion of 6the drop was actually done in two lifts spread out over two nights. The 504th parachute combat team came in the following evening in what was called "HUSKY II". a signifigant number of the ships carrying them also suffered significant losses at the hands of the US Navy who mistook them for Axis aircraft.

In the mean time I would recomend the following scources for more information on the sicily drop.

"Drop Zone Sicily" by Breuar (sic)

"Airborne Warfare" by James Gavin

"On to Berlin" by Gavin

"Ready" by Allen L Langton

"Valor Without Arms" by Ingrisano (good acount of the troop carrier aspect of the operation)

Jan Boss has also done a great deal of work on the Sicily operation. I would try a web search of his name.

Thanks for the post. Please tell us more about your trip
