Subject: 2013 Airborne/Parachute Commemoration [posted on Sicily D-Day, 10 July 2012]

Could 70th anniversary U.S. airborne operations commemorative events (incl. parachute jumps) be organized at Piano Lupo, Sicily (10 July 2013 -- 82nd Airborne), Paestum, Italy (14 Sep. 2013 -- 82nd Airborne), and Avellino, Italy (15 Sep. 2013 -- 2nd Bn./509th PIR and Det./Co. "C"/307th Airborne Engineers)?

This would probably be the first time ever such events took place there.

Other than www.Impavidus.it, who else is there in Sicily that might take part in this? And what about similar contacts in the Paestum (Salerno beachhead) and Avellino areas?

Does the U.S.-based WWII Airborne Demonstration Team www.wwiiadt.org have a branch or sister organization in Europe that could be involved in this?

Perhaps everyone could think about this and come up with something.

Feel free to forward this message to anyone that might be interested, helpful, etc.

Given that commemorative parachute jumps in northwestern Europe (chiefly France and The Netherlands) have become quite common, it seems logical that this can be expanded to include Sicily and Italy.

Note that this is also of interest to the PATHFINDERS, who made their wartime debut at Paestum (504th & 505th) and Avellino (509th "Scouts").
