Night. A curtain. A shroud. A prison.

She was dirtier than before. Sooty hands had marked her chaste-pale hide, each plumbic fingerprint awkward, thoughtless, artless. Her body was delicate; her coloring begged to differ. And now, pressed against a horizon that bled shades of purple, the galena tones of her coat appeared a ruddy sepia. Psyche was ugly dressed in her not-quite-camouflage.

The silver filly chose not to speak. Better to play dumb and thus ward off any spontaneous interaction with the vapid inhabitants of the Valley. Better to lie still. She had them eating out of her hand.

Psyche. A firefly in a glass jar.

As usual, Cirrus was nearby but utterly detached. Arrogance and misanthropy circumscribed her horned head like a crooked halo.

She studied her galena daughter with the honed, discriminating eyes of a master. She was altogether cognizant of Psyche's jaded view of reality...Hell, she herself had once harbored a similar attitude. No, cynicism was nothing to be ashamed of...but when misused was more deadly than poison.

Meanwhile, twilight felt the curves of her pallid back. Cirrus lingered, her mind reveling in the outskirts of non-entity land.

[OOC- *Coughs* Uh... very unique, Zoe.]

A light touch upon the unicorn's shoulder alerted his sudden presence, as light as the snowflakes now falling upon New York.

[*Happily* Looking out the window... it's like a white curtain of SNOWFLAKES! YES!]

Quickly he followed the white one's gaze, watching their daughter with a small smile that allowed the love for his family embedded in his heart to glitter in his eyes. Turning his head, he shared this smile with his love.

"She's too much like you for my taste," he informed her teasingly. "Do you think we should find her a suitable mate quickly before she grows up any more? A nice, placid mae who will stop her from making hasty decisions and hasty actions?"

Her smile was affectionate, if not rusty. She was out of practice. How long had it been since she'd last had an opportunity to wear elation on her sleeve?

Cirrus settled into a protective quiet while her tenebrous eyes traced the paths of the snowflakes. [Yeah, it's aboslutely pouring snow here, too. You should see my dog wallow in it...ah, it's funny!]

"Definitely," she agreed after a moment, snatching her gaze from the fingers of snow to meet Malussinn's. "You know, maybe someone who's about twelve years older than she is? Someone really boring who discourages change? That's always the kind of mate I wanted...." She paused, heaving an ironic sigh, "Tell me how I ended up with you, again?"

She uttered a soft chuckle while her smile broadened. "She is way too much like me for own good."

[*Contented smile* Our school let out early, and so my friends and I went to the park where we sledded, and sledded, and sledded.......... It was fun except that I was stupidly wearing cotton-like pants, and so they got soaked and only just almost dried. Bah-humbug.]

It was hard for him to keep a serious face. "You're right; a serious, down-to-earth mate is just what we need for her. Should I get you one also while I'm at it? I know just where to find them, and we can keep them in a golden cage."

Tipping her head gently to one side, Cirrus feigned consideration. "Hmm...I like that idea. Quite brilliant. I could use a brand, spanking-new mate, anyway." The nebular fathoms of her eyes glittered teasingly. Droll, ever so droll.

Dulled by the thick curtain of evening that had settled comfortably over the dark Valley, Psyche listened as her ostensible parents dealt dever remarks that dripped lazy satire. Figuring they were effectively occupied for the next ninety seven thousand years, she rose in one lanky-limbed motion and sauntered away.

He nods vigoriously, his eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "I was thinking about going to the ISO board. That board has a lovely selection of single stallions that would be just right for the both of you. Now, would you like one or two?"

Cirrus managed to produce her thinking face from a clutter of useless, rusted expressions. "Weeeell....two sounds about right. There's nothing more fun than living in bigamy, I must say."

Spontaneously, she pressed her tapered muzzle to his neck. "Actually, I think I'm okay mate-wise. For the time being, at least."

Reacting instantly, his head turned at an impossible angle to nuzzle her. "That's very good, Cirrus, because I don't think I'd want to lose you. Your too precious to give away to some stiff-necked idiot."

Her heart gave an unprecedented lurch in her chest and she insinuated herself at his side, resting her small head on his neck. A soft smile married the presence of a mellow, almost muted sigh; no words inspired Cirrus. Speech seemed colorless in a world of a rainbows, but how exquisite were simple passions!
