The hollow eyes of her cosmic incomprehension fluttered paper eyelids like diaphanous wings. This was an improvement; she was moving, at least. But dammit, why did incredulity always make her a paraplegic?

When all was said and done, wild confusion wasn't really new territory for Nia.

No, it was the context that had caught her off guard; that had covetously snatched every last shard of sanity Nia had clung to. What was he doing here? Where had he come from? It was like he just appeared...or...something.

Nia was certainly not planning on making the first move. She couldn't, anyway; at least not without the help of a wheelchair.
