I realised that we have the ability to understand and solve our problems, but our Mental Models often stop us before we get to it.

Einstein wrote that problems cannot be solved at the level that created them, and I realised that we are recreating our problems constantly. [Adage: History repeats itself.]

We are still creating our old problems, everytime we make divisions. We make divisions by saying something is right or wrong, when something is better or worst to do.

We create separation by saying that a certain economical and political system is the best (even if it is the best we know of) and that everyone should adopt it, creating resentment amongst people who prefer another way of life. Islamic fighters and democratic flag wavers, take note!

We create seperation by saying someone's else interpretion of their religion is false, making them liars in our eyes, and making us infidels in theirs. CWG lovers who talk badly about Catholics, take note!

We create seperation every time we decide to use the assumption that we cannot trust each other. We build political systems of checks and balance to stop us from doing what we are "tempted to do". We create cultures where we need supervision, rules, rewards, punishments and obedience to get things done in our society.

May I ask why do we choose to concentrate power in the hands of the few in the first place, and then demand that they should not gain finanically from discharging a public service, that they feel that they must steal from the public to make up the difference?

We are still creating our old problems, everytime we make mind other people's business instead of our own. We mind other people's business when we debate and complain, but not take action. We mind other people's business by telling them what they should do, instead of doing what we can do. We mind other people's business by making them dependent on us and not render them independent.

We mind other people's business when we take the shortcut of setting laws to patch problems (like inefficient public transport causing speeding, or lack of psychological support causing racism) in our society, rather than spend the time and effort to fix problems at their root. We mind other people's business by saying that they are wrong, and then going to war with them when they refuse to obey us.

We are still creating our old problems, everytime we forget to live our own vision. We forget to live our vision when we choose a stable income to a meaningful lfie. We forget to live our vision when we choose to follow the advice of others, rather than our inner calling. We forget to live our vision when we label something impossible because we do not think that anyone has succeeded in it before.

We forget to live our vision when we choose politicans who minces their words carefully to appease everyone, but have no substance in their policies. We forget to live our vision when we choose a society that tries in vain to support groups of people who prefer to live in yesterday with mountains of subsidies when that money could enrich the lives of millions others. We forget to live our vision when we choose a nation who has no future so as to speak, but pretends that it has.

We are still creating our old problems, everytime we refuse to own our problems. We refuse to own our problems everytime we say it is the fault of SARS, of terrorism, human nature, God or simply the way it is. We refuse to own our problems everytime we complain about the stupidity of our politicans, the cruelty of radical Islamic terrorists, the fault of the system, or bad karma.

We refuse to own our problems everytime we say it is the fault of Iraqi, or the US that the world is in such bad shape. We refuse to own our problems everytime we say that we cannot do anything to change our societies, that our citizens are apethic, the taxes rising sky high, the politicans getting worse day by day.

We refuse to own our problems when we refuse to honor our truth, to stop that we do not condone (e.g. Iraqi) in a way in harmony with all of us.

Until we stop recreating our old problems, we cannot create solutions. Until we examine our Mental Models carefully, we will still remain ignorant of the reality we are creating in our lives. Many of us are well-intended, but I would say that they have yet to own their problems, and thus, yet to solve them.

Hope this gives you food for thought.
