Yes, Eric, I agree- sometimes it is really just us who creates and re-creates our own problems...
But then-- in some kind of sado-masochistic way, it is because we actually "enjoy" or prefer this problem/s.
Sometimes there is something we "get" from having this problem- be it "pity" from others, or "pride" for undergoing hardships, or whatever else.
Sometimes, some people even believe that it is good to be suffering (due to our Catholic background maybe). Or, some people believe that "things that we have to work hard for are more valuable". Thus, even if they can get it easily, they opt to get it "the hard way" because their belief is driving that reality. (ie. they believe it is hard, thus it becomes hard; and they in fact prefer it to be hard so that its more "valuable")
For instance, some people feel that they must work hard to gain material wealth, because if wealth comes easily, they won't appreciate it much. And that is what they experience.
Some believe that the meaning of love is agreeing to "sacrifice" or do a lot of "work" for the other. And, that is what they experience.
Maybe that is all part of the process. Maybe they want/have to go through that stage before reaching another.
So, also as you said- to each his own, its is up to them and us, if they/we would like to create our problems. Or in other words, its no problem if we want to create our problems... :-)
