My cry your only serenade,
You didn't know you'd been betrayed,

Hochkisser whipping the advancing fossils toward new terra, imprints of the loam behind her stretched for miles. The beasts that nipped her silly were far behind her, learning from experience how the lash and slash of the slave-driver's whipcord felt, and also how the shining, threatening ivories looked. No fly would ever stay would ever stay with her for more than two risings of the sun. They would die before that.
The glossy pelt, deep bergundey ooids, the unshoed hooves, they all had to come from somewhere. A place of haven, where everyone was perfect, that she wasn't, that her father and mother tried to comfort her, to tell her she was enough, how she threw them off, ran away, was captured 6 times and fought out 6 times, how she came here after a attack of wolves, bears and one lion, They were in a blur. Who cared about them, anyway? she neither remembered, nor wanted to remember how she was put upon this place. All she cared about was that she had gotten out of 5 assaults by wild animals to her life, and 6 assaults by humans to her freedom. She knew she was good to go, tough and able, and she was NOT going to go with those two oafs over there!
How stupid. How absolutely stupid. I bet they don't even LOOK at them before they sauntered up and start boasting and inviting the poor mares as their mates. And inviting EVERY MARE here. I would teach them a leasson if they talked to me. In fact, I think I will!
The thoughts formed and reformed in her brain like bubbles bursting, and new ones appearing. Indeed this new world would be a challenge, keeping herself from being sneaked,(which she HAD heard of), finding a herd to have her, trying to out-evil the rest,(as darks may do), a challenge she embraced with open arms. One thing she could not banish from her head was a memory of the "perfect" herd she had lived in. It was always the same, it never had troubles or problems to overcome, it never had virtue. It was not enough for her. The differences were clear to her, and the blurriest thing in the world to her family. She was an obviously evil horse, They were lights, she was mutated in heart and soul, they were perfect. The list went on and on. This place had darks like herself, challenges, it had diversity, it had her attitude(most of it did) and it had her future in its hands. what else could she do but stay? |
