Subject: Buffy The Vampire Slayer/The Movie 1992

Probably an old 'nut' of a thread but I watched the 'movie' that Joss hated so, just tonight.

I was kind of reminded of a few things:

First: Spike was definitely based somewhat on Pike, no question. Pike even quoted, well quotes that Spike would later quote.

I always wondered what happened to the character in the series. I heard that Pike just disappeared, went to Cleveland, etc.

Interesting, Jesse was the name of Pike's friend on the movie, and Xander's friend in the series.

Did they ever explain what happened to Merrick in the series?

I still say that the 1992 movie was kind of cute, even though Joss hated it.

Okay, gone now...

love YAH

Yes, Merrick was even in a flashback in Becoming part 2. Although I'm not sure how much they exactly say about him. The Origin comic has him, but the plotline is slightly altered. Instead of him dying by staking, he tells Buffy to get out on the motorbike and then shoots himself. And he was conceived with a different look than Donald Sutherland.

The movie also had a whole reincarnation thing going on with him.

Of course the part about burning down the gym was taken out of the film...

Pike is in the follow up comics, after the Origin...Viva Las Buffy...I'm not sure how many after that though. He also popped up in the novel Sins of the Father, but that's
not canon of course.

My thoughts on the movie---

It was better than I thought it would be, although still not very good. There were parts I enjoyed. Mostly Kristy Swanson. Although SMG is my preferred Buffy (at least until she became unbearable during the last two seasons) Kristy looks more like a vampire slayer (height and body type). I thought she did great with the role.

My main problem with the movie is that each character is in a different movie...which I guess would be the fault of the director. One actor is playing it as a straight-out comedy, one as a thriller, one as a drama. Takes you out of the plot several times.

But again, I went in with low expectations, and it was better than I thought it would be.

I LOVED the first movie because it was the first of it's kind. When I found out that there was a series being made on it I was ecstaic!! When I saw the series I was blown away!!

Now, this question is to Ripper, what did you find unbearble about Buffy in the last two seasons. Buffy, to me was sort of unlikable in the last two seasons. Her character DID change yes. I loved her in season 5 though. She e was awesome. a True Slayer if you ask me

Just to be clear, it was Buffy the character which I found unbearable during the last two seasons...not "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," the series. It may have even started before the final two seasons, but here are some examples that immediately spring to mind...

Remember her speech to Principal Wood at the end of "Lies My Parents Told Me"...

"If you try something like this again, Spike will kill you. More importantly, I'll let him. I'm fighting a war. I don't have time for a vendetta."

Really? Hypocrite much? What about when Faith took out Angel during "Graduation Day?" What about when Faith switched bodies with Buffy, and Buffy went all the way to L.A. because "she had a right to punish Faith" as she told Angel.

Her pathetic attitude during Season Six also got tiring. "Oh, how depressing. My friends love me, and they ripped me out of heaven." I did enjoy that when Buffy was trying to convince Evil Willow that she needed to save the world, Willow called her on her hypocracy.

The manner in which she treated Giles during Season Seven also bugged. Not to mention the poor strategy she employed which got many of the potentials murdered or injured, including Xander losing an eye. And for what?

When they kicked her out of her house, was I supposed to feel bad for Buffy? Because I didn't.

However, that all said, I did enjoy her in the series finale, and the smile she has at the end, when she realizes that she can do anything she wants. Still, it was hard to root for Buffy Summers during the final two seasons.

And yes you are 100 percent spot on!!! That is why I didn't like Buffy, The character, the last two seasons

I don't know, I'm rewatching S6, and I'm amazed by the writing and direction because Willow goes to all these pains to bring Buffy back, and the gang is into all the details, yet they forget Buffy's buried IN THE COFFIN!?! Hilarious. And the scoobies find her dazed and confused on a street, and she's frightened of them, and despite their concern for her, they obviously wonder if she's some kind of loser. Gad, what an attitude. Unfortunately, there's no mention of Faith, the current slayer. If someone said, "hey, bring someone back from the dead", on the one hand, and someone said, "hey, break someone out of jail," I might wonder which task would be tougher.

I don't know, I think buffy was pretty decent to Witchy Willow, et al.
