Subject: Gypsy Girl vs. Dru

Call me confused. I've watched "Becoming" a dozen times and I keep confusing the backstories. The ep is full of flashbacks. First, they show Darla siring Angel. Then they show Angel taking confession from an innocent girl, Druscilla, a psychic peasant girl. Then they flash forward to the present where Dru complains about an old man she ate who has become stuck in her teeth. The next backstory is where I get confused. They go back to the Gypsy hunt for Angel and that flashback ends in his ensouling.

Dru must be the Gypsy girl the gypsies are avenging by ensouling Angel, but that's not really true, is it? Dru and Angel partied for decades together as monsters, and then Angel killed the gypsy girl and that brought down the wrath of the gypsies. Dru was far away, a vampire, and loving every minute of her afterlife.

So who is this gypsy girl that I confuse so readily with Dru? Ms. Calendar, Jenny, is not some descendant of Dru's clan. How dumb. Anyway, the gypsy girl. She's sort of important, right? So, who is she?

We never really learn that much about the "gypsy girl". We know that she was important enough to her clan for them to cast the curse on her killer. I think there is a flashback scene somewhere (not sure whether it's in Buffy or Angel) where we see her briefly as a bound victim, but other than that we don't actually meet her, we just hear occasional descriptions of her.

Yeah, they panned over a pretty girl who then went off into oblivion. I'm sure the shot was in "Becoming." I'm just confused, because they went from the scene with a pre-vamped Dru talking to Angel in the church confession booth to Angel chased by an ensouling spell and a prophetic sounding gypsy.
