Subject: Dru's mysterious power over Spike's chip

I've watched Crush a dozen times and I didn't understand how Dru could get Spike's chip to shut off so he could kill a wee girl at the Bronze. So, I'm watching it tonight, and as clear as day, Dru snaps the girls neck before Dru hands her to Spike. I can only account for this by accusing the victim of bad acting. The victim seemed to be smiling slightly, like Mona Lisa, when Dru hands her across.

Dru snaps the girls neck, killing her. Spike can now feed because he can't harm a dead person. chip wouldn't go off.
