Subject: Repost (more or less): Buffy Season 8 nominated for Eisners

The Spring 2008 issue of the Comic-com magazine listed the nominees for the 2008 Will Eisner Comic Industry awards.

Buffy Season 8 was nominated for "Best New Series" and "Best Continuing Series." Also Joss Whedon and Brian Vaughan both were nominated for "Best Writer".

And the new webcomic Sugarshock! by Joss Whedon and Fabio Moon was nominated for "Best Digital Comic".

How can it be nominated for both "Best New Series" *and* "Best Continuing Series"? Or does continuing mean something different in this case?

Maybe they mean "a story which continues from one issue to the next" rather than "a series that's been around for a while."

Although my GrammarMonkey wants to write them a strongly-worded letter pointing out the difference between "continuing" and "continuous" ;)

I created my own one from some partial-DNA found in the stomach of a spider that was encased in amber... I combined it with some Elephant DNA to finish it off, because now I have a Grammar Monkey... That Never Forgets!

"Continuing" seems to be a reference to the length of the series, while "New" is a reference to the series being started recently.

Note that two of the other categories are "Best Single Issue (or One-Shot)" and "Best Limited Series".
