Subject: Big questions what I got (SPOILERS)

'Cause I'm VERY confused.

Is Willow permanently changed in any way? What was the big threat here? At first, I thought that she was gonna drain the demonic energy from the hellnmouth and channel it through the scythe, leaving her endangered, but I guess not. So what did she need to be situated right above the Hellmouth for?

Is the First defeated? And how? I get the the ubervamps are killed and Caleb is killed and both the Seal of Danzig and the Hellmouth is no more, but how is that a defeat for the First? It's just one battle, not the war. Or was that the point?

Why did the First spend all year making sure that no one harmed Buffy? Both the first ubervamp and triggered Spike were warned not to kill her. Why? And, for that matter, why didn't the First just blow up the Summers houselike it did the Watcher's? And why did it try and kill Faith?

And what, exactly, did Giles mean by "it's different from how every previuous generation has fought evil"?

They made such a fuss about the order of operations during the season, and now I don't understand what ANY of it meant. The only thing that was keeping the First from annihilating them all was that it had to be done in a certain order. First the Watchers, then the potentials, then Faith, then Buffy. It's the only thing that kept the season going.

At this point (read the summaries, still haven't seen the episode myself) I still have zero idea of WHAT the First was trying to accomplish, WHAT its game plan was, and HOW Buffy defeated it (did she?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

'Cause I REALLY want to like this.

And I'm gonna have to defend it to unbelievers tomorrow. And I don't know if I can do that alone.
