Subject: Just saw this, it's weird & haven't seen it talked about before here. I'm confuzzled.
Read following article about the newest Buffy video game:
http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2003-05/19/12.00.games
Here's the part that confuses me (well, other than one of the characters you can play being Joss Whedon):
"Goodrich also said that players will see the return of Tara (Amber Benson) as an evil vampire with whom Willow must do battle."
How can they justify Tara as a vamp? They can't go completely away from the events on TV, they're claiming this game represents an unaired episode of season 7.
Supposedly most of the cast are doing their own voice except SMG. For any RPGers out there, how weird would it be to face off against an evil Amber? Especially if you were playing the Willow character? The mind boggles.
Although, besides single and multi-player, there's also a bunny-catcher mode. Hee!

Its prob wrong -- sLaP, 15:10:49 05/20/03 Tue (62.252.0.5)
The newest Buffy game is actually a lost season 5 episode (As in, the similar theme)
Amber may supply a voice but i doubt it's a Vampire Tara.

That wouldn't be -- MTsFan, 15:14:31 05/20/03 Tue (205.175.220.3)
consistent with AB's non-return to season 7.
I'd believe it for a role other than a vampire.

this may help... -- greyfus, 15:15:31 05/20/03 Tue (12.253.46.222)
...to explain some of the continuity errors from the game:
here's the premise:
Chaos Bleeds involves an unraveling tale in which a dimensional bleed has been enabled by Pure Evil to consume humanity once and for all. It's up to Buffy and her friends to stop it all from happening...again!
so it's probably an inter-dimensional-evil-vamp-tara...

Ah, alternate universe Tara makes sense. -- BadPenguin, 15:27:52 05/20/03 Tue (216.80.57.190)
The game certainly includes the Vamp!Tara, this article is basically a press release from the creators of the game.
I still think it'll be weird facing evil!Amber, of course before I saw it I couldn't imagine an evil Vamp!Willow and that was cool.
Of course, I think it's also going to be a hoot with the Joss character doing roundhouse kicks and having all the other character's powers. *snicker* They should've given him a special Joss-power instead (but leave in the kicks & stuff) Just too funny. I wonder if you could play Joss and keep running his head into walls & stuff? There's closure for you, baby!

hahaha take that, joss! and that! and that! and that! and that! -- greyfus - and this!, 15:35:18 05/20/03 Tue (12.253.46.222)
i'm not a huge gamer but i'm seriously looking forward to this game. my own personal pixelized faith. mmm mmm mmm. 24 unlockable characters, it said! geesh. wonder if it's too much to hope for for an wishverse-vampire-faith.
what would the special 'joss power' be? "i can kill you with the stroke of a pen! suckas."

Some kind of power like that. And he could face evil critics, and get a power up from an Emmy. :-D -- BadPenguin, 15:48:19 05/20/03 Tue (216.80.57.190)

honestly, haven't seen any mention of her... -- greyfus, 15:51:55 05/20/03 Tue (12.253.46.222)
but with 24 unlockable characters, i'd imagine she's in there somehow. i've only seen a handful of pics, and none of them have verified it, though. most previews just mention buffy, willow, xander, spike, faith, sid the dummy and ethan rayne.

OK, I did a little more research on this game. -- BadPenguin, 16:22:51 05/20/03 Tue (216.80.57.190)
It's gone through a big change since original concept. Originally this was advertised as being placed in Season 5 anc including the playable characters of Buffy, Angel, Willow, Xander, and Spike. The latest from the executive producer of the game is it is placed in Season 7 (he says they're constantly trying to keep up with new developments as they air) and replaces Angel with Faith and Sid the Dummy, providing six characters for single-player play. In mult-player apparently 24 characters are available from both the hero and the villain camps, but they don't identify who the others are except the primary six, Buffy, Faith, Willow, Xander, Spike & Sid the Dummy. Vamp!Tara will be one of the villains but I don't know if you can play her in multi-player mode. Here are some screencaps:

Well, from what I heard its a lost episode in season 5, and the story line is basically an interdimensional 'bleed' comes into play allowing alternative versions of various kinds to come through into the Buffyverse as we know it.
Playable characters inc Buffy, Xander, Willow, Faith, and Spike (Could also possibly be Buffy, Xander, Willow, Spike and Angel - All of these possibly during Season 5 if the interdimensional bleed is correct info). It will also include 24 unlockable multiplayer characters from from Good and Evil sides, and also feature other Neutral, or not so Neutral characters such as Tara, Anya and Giles.
The way I see this fitting in, with some of the characters not being around in Season 5 is that they will come from an Alternate Dimension universe, What kind I dont know.
The season 5 lost episode would also fit with Willows short hair, compared to the season 7 longer hair.
That would explain the presence of the Good, Normal Tara and also the evil Vampire Tara who would come from an alternate dimension.
