Subject: Back again! For those still here, an X2-based question...nothing spoilery for the show or the film

OK, thinking about this the other day....does anybody else think that the main X-Men in X2, and the Scoobies in Buffy, share an alarming similarity in terms of character evolution?

Cyclops = Xander (right down to the lack of storyline)
Storm = Anya
Jean Grey = Willow (the Dark Phoenix comic-book storyline and Willow's dark magicks season 6 arc are quite similar)
Wolverine = Spike
Rogue = Dawn (except Dawn doesn't get powers :( )

It seems interesting that these characters are not dissimilar...we know that Joss is a big fan of comic books, and it is rumoured he's taking storylines out of the comic books, specifically X-Men - Angel's "everythings been manipulated by a higher being" is similar to one X-Men offshoot comic, where 200 issues in, it was revealed all the mutants and whatnot had been brought together by a higher power, trying to stop Apocalypse (i think thats the bad guy, anyway).

So are we seeing a comic book parallel in Buffy too?

I for one am now rushing off to look for a time-wonkiness storyline in X-Men comics...

I don't think Anya/Storm is quite right but I agree with the others film wise but not comic as Rogue was alot older in the comics, Dawn is more Kitty Pride (soz but i am STUCK on MT playing her)

I so, so want
Kitty - Michelle
Gambit - James
Vince - Pyro (too late dammit)
Alexa - Rogue (if Anna doesn't return)

BAH!
anyways...yeah, as soon as I saw DarkWillow, the brainy little red head goes all crazy I thought "Xmen much"

If they can't get everybody on board for X3, then they can always work around it....do a "spinoff" type thing with maybe Pyro, Iceman, Mystique.... it could work, there are tons of stories in the X-Universe, they don't have to follow a linear pattern...

And besides, as you say they already have their Rogue and a Pyro, plus Kitty Pryde aswell :) But I don't think JM would make a good Gambit, I'd like to see an actual New Orlean play him...maybe a newcomer, this franchise is perfect for launching a film career - action as well as depth :)

I don't know that I buy Anya/Storm parallels, either, but the rest are appropriate.

The only real time wonkiness X-Men stuff I can think of is the Days of Future Past arc, I think. I can't even summarize it off-hand, but Scott and Jean have future doubles, and somehow their future daughter comes back to current time, or something like that.

Age of Apocalypse might be another worth eyeballing. I can't remember that arc.
