Hi Martin.
I´m Christoph from Berlin/Germany. I play Pétanque for nearly one year now. And after this time - others warned me about - the game can be very frustrating. In the beginning I had no fear to point a boule to long/to short, I just threw it with the power which I thought will be enough to come close to the cochonet. I didn´t think about where to hit the surface, how much backspin would be useful and which curve the boule should describe before touching the ground (and the results weren´t that bad).
Now, after one year of playing a lot (3 to 4 times a week) and knowing what is tactically possible I´m often confused because the results to my playing ideas seem to come true only very occasionally.
That leeds me to reconfigure my techniques of pointing/shooting over and over again, what can be very frustrating because the new techniques aren´t so automised like the way I threw the boules before.
The good players always tell me not to be so focussed on the result and not to be frustrated when I couldn´t transpose my idea (but to try it again and again). But I´m not so relaxed like them after a hole in shooting for example. But being relaxed and concentrated seems to be the most important requirement for good Pétanque playing.
So it´s not so easy at the moment but I love this game to much to give up my ideas of playing the way I dream of. And the rare days where nearly everything works out now appear more often.
Greetings from Berlin
Christoph

P.S. : Excuse my bad English (where is this goddam dictionary !!!)
