Subject: Scrambled Eggs...errrr...Myths

Just a few minutes ago I posted this to the Camelot Reborn Message Board, to a Lady Malaika Tsomi abour her claiming to be the Lady of the Lake.

The Lady of the Lake???????? You gotta be KIDDING me!
Granted, this is rp....but messing myths up that bad...
Need lil refresher course in Athurian myths 101?

The Lady of the Lake, in Arthurian legend, a misty, supernatural figure endowed with magic powers, who gave the sword Excalibur to King Arthur. She inhabited a castle in an underwater kingdom.
According to one legend she kidnapped the infant Launcelot and brought him to her castle where he lived until manhood. She has been identified variously with Morgan le Fay and Vivien. The poem The Lady of the Lake, by Sir Walter Scott, is based on a totally different legend.
She was a high priestess, and the protector of the waters and keeper of earth's treasures. Her ancient magic influenced men, beasts, and the earth itself. When she knew the time was right, she rose out of the waters of Lake Mar Val, carrying the magnificient sword Excalibur, which she offered to King Arthur. It was forged from metal that can only be found in the netherworld, and was infused with the magic of the high priestess.

The Lady of the Lake was a woman of great magical power. She resided in the lake. The lake was actually a Celtic Otherworld. A great enchantment was cast upon her castle, to hide her land from intruders.

There seemed to be several Lady of the Lake. The most important Lady of the Lake was Niniane (also known as Viviane, Vivien or Nimue). Some even say that Morgan le Fay was also the Lady of the Lake, though most often Morgan was referred to as one of nine sorceresses of Avalon.

Another Lady of the Lake gave Excalibur to King Arthur [Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, chapter 25]. She was killed by Balin le Savage [Le Morte d'Arthur, Book II, chapter 3].

Niniane or Viviane was the Lady of the Lake, who appeared in the Vulgate Cycle. Niniane was often called Vivien and Nimue (in Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur).

According to the Vulgate Merlin, Niniane was the daughter of Dyonas, who had married the niece of the Duke of Burgoyne. Her Lake seemed to be located in Little Britain (another name for Brittany), and was known as the Lake of Diana. It was named after the Roman goddess of the chase.

Igraine
(AD438-AD511)
Lady of the Lake by heritage; High Queen by marriage to Uther; mother of Morgause and of Arthur.

even more?

Several women, who are often blurred in the legends, all carry this title. Some
names include Viviane, Eviene, Viviene, Nimue, and Nina. In Malory she is the
woman who gives Arthur Excalibur and later takes it back when it is thrown into the
water. In some works she is responsible for raising Lancelot, and sometimes curing
his madness. She is also Merlin's downfall in Malory, the Vulgate Cycle and other
various forms of the legend. She enchants Merlin with the magic he taught her. In
Malory, she is killed in Arthur's court by Balin, but later reappears.

*adjusts her thin framed glasses.
So, that teaches us...better do research before you claim a historic or even mythical title.
*closes her book and goes back to Avalon*
