Subject: UND Goes 2 for 2

Overall our class did pretty well. We did have two that unsat (one CTI and one VRA.) They will have their second chance on Tuesday.

The PV itself is very straight forward. In my scenario there were 5 aircraft to aircraft conflictions. The MOA goes active approx. 3 minutes into the problem, which results in an aircraft to airspace confliction. R931A and R931B were also active the entire problem, but they were no factor. Military change of destination. 2 Greenwood departures and 3 Vicksburg departures. Aircraft deviation for weather, resulting in coordination of control information to ZHU. IAFDOF aircraft that needs to be moved to meet the LOA with ZHU or APREQ. About 35 minutes into the scenario the interface with ZHU went down, resulting in 3 manual handoffs . Finally there were several point outs and APREQ's to the adjacent sectors.

This is just one example of a PV problem, we were informed there are 15 different scenarios.

In addition to the .65 duty priorities they are grading you on strip marking, phraseology, and communication with the R-side.

My evaluator was a training supervisor from ZMP. He was a really great guy. About 5 minutes before running the problem he came out of the lab and introduced himself and talked about the operations and what I could look forward to at ZMP. It was a really nice gesture and it also help calm some of the nervousness.

As far as difficulty, I would say it is at approx. the same level as a scenario in the mid 20's. During the radar training they take you to a level well beyond what you will experience in the PV. You will be WAY more busy in your final scenarios that you will be in the PV. In the end, I felt very prepared.

This is about all the info I can provide. I know that Hallock has blogged about all this in detail, but I felt obligated to share my experience with you all. I hope it will help the future en route students.

ATTN Bartelson: I will be in contact with you in the next two weeks. Also, how about that Gopher hockey team? It must be pretty embarrassing not making the Final Five.
