the thing of it is, after the FOTR first came out and I'd been to see it, I read this article in the newspaper. It was about a couple who'd gone to see it (can't remember how old they were - this was almost two years ago)and this utterly atrocious "family" had been sitting right behind them. The kids were doing the usual pain-in-the-arse stuff like talking, laughing, making lots of noise etc so when the (I think it was the wife) turned around to politely ask them to be quiet, they apparently spouted off curses at the woman and did the usual immature thing that ppl do when they've been asked to shoosh - they started kicking her chair. They kept doing all this crap during the whole movie and I think even the parents did as well. They weren't even interested in watching the damn thing. So when the wife of the couple yet again asked them to stop, the little shits said something like, "shut-up you stupid, bitch". She eventually got the attention of the usher and he told the hellions to be quiet. They did until the usher left the theatre then started it all over again.

I think at one point the wife kindly asked the father of the family to get his kids to be quiet and his response was pretty much like what his kids had said. So at the end of the movie I think the husband of the couple confronted the family and pointed out what a disruption they'd been and the father of the family ended up hitting the guy or something (I'm probably missing some details here, my memory of this article's kinda vague). So in the end, the nice couple who'd gone to actually *see* LOTR didn't get to enjoy it at all, ended up missing most of it and the husband ended up with a bloody nose. The point of it is, two things: 1) Some ppl who go to the movies are complete and utter arseholes who enjoy nothing more than wrecking the experience of watching a movie at the theatre for other ppl and 2) Kids and adults alike can be just as bad as each other. When I first read this article it totally pissed me off. I mean, I didn't even know the couple and I was feeling utterly sorry for them in every possible way. And feeling complete hatred for the family.

This whole year, I've seen far less movies at the cinema than any other year. Mostly because of the usual crap like ppl talking through the movie, kicking your chair etc as well as the fact that at our cinema, you now have to buy your ticket for the movie at the same place you buy your food. Which is completely crap imho 'cause what if you don't want any food? (I never get any at the movies now) You still have to stand in a great big line waiting for *other* ppl to choose their food and get their tickets while you just want to simply get a ticket and get into the movie. But also, after reading that article, it horrified me so much I had no clue what I'd have done if I were in the couple's situation. Sure, I'd *want* to kick the arses of that entire family but I know that'd never happen. I'd probably just walk out, I think (and I've *never* walked out of a movie in my life). So that kinda put me off the whole movie-going experience as well. I now only see movies if I really really *really* wanna see 'em, otherwise, I just wait for them to come out on video. Btw, reading that article just gave me one more reason for hating kids.
