Subject: Okies, now I've seen it...
In reply to: silver 's message, "you've surely seen it, B. (spoilers for the Witchblade movie included, but I'll warn you when I get to them)" on 10:59:27 09/08/03 Mon

As usual, I have two opinions on this "movie". One is a positive opinion. It worked as (like you described it) "two episodes stuck together". It had some nice camera work, some really nice atmospheric shots and it's certainly better than other "super heroine" tv shows such as Dark Angel. Plus any show that opens with a U2 song can't be bad:) Speaking of, I really liked most of the music used throughout it.

I did however have a few problems with it. Some might not be so much "problems" if we get more of an explanation in the series. I wasn't entirely buying that her magic mitten thingy (thanx, Buff, for that name) could deflect every bullet aimed at her. I mean, it wasn't so much that I didn't buy the fact that it could *deflect* bullets but um...bullets travel *fast*, the witchblade would haveta give her super speed to stop bullets once they'd been fired before they hit her. But it's no big thing really.

I was a bit confuzzled during the fight in the subway station when she finally *did* get shot and we cut back to blonde guy doing something which I guess caused her to slide along the ground out of harm's way. What, has he got some sort of jedi force power or something? I was a bit disappointed she didn't kill the guy in the end. What's really baffling is why the hell did channel nine give it an MA rating (for strong violence and *horror* - of all things) when I hardly saw *any* blood at all? As for the "horror" - wtf? You'll probably be as perplexed as me when you read this. The only answer I can think of is channel nine's shit (but me and qc already knew that;)

As far as the characters go, I got no problem with Sara as the lead. I'm not too fond of that guy you love so much, sil (Nottingham - I'm still convinced Sheriff of goes in front of that;). He seemed a bit to Angel-in-the-'WTTH' with the following the main character around, being all mysterious and cryptic, kicking bad guy's arses and such for me. He may prove to be more different when the show starts (or not). I don't think much of his dress sense. He partner that got shot was alright but uh...he's dead now. Her new parnet I don't really have much of an opinion on and as for blonde guy - is it me or is he just too Giles-like? If I'd seen this show before BTVS I'd probably not have a problem with them but BTVS came first.

Questions? Comments? So what was with the knight showing up everywhere, is it Nottinham? Does he go around wearing armour? Also, I was completely not buying the glove flying onto Sara's hand in the fight at the beginning, like it just *happened* to lad on her hand but later on they sorta made out that it *chose* her so I guess that kinda explains it. I *so* knew that those paintings in blonde guy's place were gonna have Sara's face even tho at the time the faces were covered (well, I didn't expect them *all* to have her face, as was revealed at the end, I just expected one of 'em to). I liked in the subway when it was flashing between present day Sara and her in armour as she walked towards the bad guy. I did, however, get kind of sick of the stop/start motion used frequently throughout it. Most of the fights (especially the one where "Sara goes nutso" didn't even clearly show contact/detail (here's hoping channel nine didn't edit it).

I will watch the show because it has now sparked my interest but I hope it becomes really unqiue, and not so similar with the slayer/chosen/one in every generation premise. Btw, I really liked that last painting of *her* that you see where she's wearing the blue tanktop, holding a gun in one hand with the witchblade on the other. Very comic-y (which the movie and series is based on). Looked kewl.
