Subject: Buffy ep review for 'Beneath You'...

*yawn* It wasn't a very interesting ep I thought. By far the most stand-out performance of the ep was JM's. Everyone else was just kinda eh. Whether you like Spike or not, I think you're being very stubborn if you can't admit that JM puts in a hell of a performance playing the role. He shifted from crazy Spike to the old wanting-to-help-Buffy-out Spike then moved on to big bad Spike at the bronze then back to crazy Spike in such a way it made the whole thing just *so* well done. My hat is off to JM for his performance. Also, he got back on my good side for beating up Anya at the Bronze;) Btw, I read ya review, sil (as I always do) and what was that about being shocked that a souled Spike was "going around hitting a defenseless Anya"? Defenseless?? Phfft, yeah right. She can take it just as much as Buffy does on a regular basis. And I was VERY delighted to see someone finally kicking anya's pathetic arse like she deserves. And Xander was right not to step in to defend her, as if she *needed* it. Yeah right. One interesting point brought up tho was how was anya able to see Spike's soul?

I also can't believe you thought that nancy character might join the gang, sil. Hahaha...sorry *g*. I was pretty darn sure she wasn't gonna be hanging around. She was just another typical victim of the week. So long, dog lady (ex-dog lady rather). LOL@Xander's line,"Wait. That gets your sad noise? People's lives are in danger, and you give it up for the Yorkie?".

I was a little surprised to see you say, "Go Dawn!" when she was threatening Spike. I mean, I was really not happy with Spike after he tried to rape Buffy. But now he's got a soul I think that will give him back at least some of what he deserves (what with it torturing him, along with the FE). So I'm back to liking Spike again which therefore put me on *his* side rather than on Dawn's. Plus I mean, I just *really* don't like it when little annoying younger characters threaten ppl who could kill them in an instant (well, he *could* if he didn't have the chip which btw, I'm not even positive he's still got. I'll haveta watch it again but it kinda looked like he was expecting pain and did that thing where he yells from expectation of it hurting then was shocked not only at what he'd done to the ronnie/worm guy, but also possibly at the fact there was no actual *pain*. I could be wrong. We will see). In any case, Dawn's threat just annoyed me and I was like, "wow, her non-annoyingness last one episode.") to top it off she did her usual bitchiness towards Buffy for not telling her that she'd seen Spike in the last ep. Geesh, Dawn, Buffy was kinda busy SAVING YOU (like she says). I guess it was too much to hope for absolute 0% annoyingness from Dawn.

Is it me or did Spike get away with saying "bug-shit"? One review I read said that it sounded like "bug-shite" but another thing reckons it was was "bug-shagging crazy". If anyone's still got the ep on tape and could check it and tell me what they think said would be good. If it *was* bug-shite then whoo-hoo! for them slipping that past the censors. I know, it's nothing *big* but eh. Also, I loved his line, "And when exactly did your sister get unbelievably scary?" (no matter how much I hated Dawn "being unbelievably scary", I'm glad it led to that line from Spike).

The most interesting scene was also the one with the most feeling and emotion and just plain great acting it it. I'm talking of course about the church scene. I can't really put into words why I think this is such a well done scene (or rather, if I *did* I'd take too long to get my point across). But the ending *especially* (thanx A LOT channel 7 for showing the cross scene in the previews before this ep even aired <--sarcasm). It was just a painful thing to watch (as I'm sure it was painful for Spike to experience). The one thing I haveta go back and try to take note of now is his accent apparently changing from lower class to upper class. I can't believe I didn't notice it the first time I watched. Kudos to JM and with an honourable mention to SMG for her expression at discovering Spike got his soul back. Apart from this scene the whole ep was just rather blah. But ALOT better than 2nd eps in seasons usually are.
