Subject: Just saw the final eps of Farscape. *spoilers* (Response to BBOven inside)

Wow.

Now that I've got that out of the way....

I don't think the "To Be Continued" was obnoxious, insulting, or anything else. As sil mentioned, they didn't have time to change anything -- they'd almost finished shooting the final ep when word came through about the cancellation. Before that, they'd had a contract with SciFi for a fifth season. Skiffy weaselled out at the last possible second through a loophole. Thus, they couldn't change it. It was already going to be "TBC" -- why change it? That wasn't how they planned on ending the series, and they'd be damned if they were going to make it look like that was how it was supposed to be. Besides, when it says "TBC", and then Skiffy don't show the rest -- fans are going to be mightily pissed off. Those who don't get online are going to find out about the cancellation when they call the channel in a few months' time, and ask where the fuck the next season is. And heads at SciFi are going to fucking roll, let me tell you. They're already in deep shit financially, and being sued by people who they put on Fear Factor -- it wouldn't surprise me if they're dead and frelling buried by the end of the year. If the anger of 'Scapers helps achieve this, then all the better.

Second, it's not specifically over -- even if they can't find another channel to pick it up for a whole season, the writers have promised that we'll get the ending *somehow*, whether it be TV movies, an animated series, comic books, or novelisations. Hell, they said that they'd act it out on street corners, of they had to -- but no way in hell are they letting us dangle forever. So, they story *is* still to be continued, even if it's not in the same way as it is now. This show is their baby -- they would never just abandon it like Joss abandoned Buffy. Brian Henson's been working since the very early '90s to get this show on the air, and he's not about to give up. Same with the show's producers. These people pretty much lived the show, and they're so in touch with their fans (unlike a certain "if you didn't like season 6, you just couldn't hack it" series creator I could mention) that they wouldn't leave us in the lurch. (Besides, some of us know where they live. *g* They wouldn't dare let us down.)

So, all in all, I think it was the right thing to do. It'll get the fans mad about the absolute shittiness that is SciFi, when they find out it's *not* coming back, and it leaves the door open for finishing it off elsewhere. (Personally, if they can't get the show back, I'd love to see a novelisation. Some of those writers are *damned* good. Ricky Manning, I'm looking at you.) And I can't believe I just debated the use of "To Be Continued". Feh.

Fucking SciFi. I can't believe those sons of bitches.

Pity you didn't watch it, sil -- I think you would've liked it. Stark, John and Aeryn... right up your alley. *g*

*kicks SciFi in the NUTS*
