Kaos,

I e-mailed you recently and you said you'd need someone to get you American TV Company logo's and things like that. As far as American Television goes, I work in the industry ... So if you need anything like that then just let me know and I can e-mail the stuff too you. Just let me know what you need to know about American television and I can answer almost anything.

Brilliant!

Thank the TV Gods! (ie. Me)

It's fantastic that you're willing to help. Basically, what I need is the top 5 US Tv Companies in order with:
-A public reputation out of 100 (100=best, 0=worst)
-An approximate financial standpoint (About $15 million for the best and 1.5mil for the worst)
-A bitmap logo or a place I can find one on the net that I can crop to the right size.
-The initials or whatever and the full name
-A brief summary of how the company is in words (20-30 words perhaps...)

I know that's a lot but it's what i need if there's to be a US version...

If anyone can give me this then post it here or e-mail me (preferably post it.)

Alright, that's no problem at all. Although the USA has 6 main television stations, UPN is the weakest of them all especially since they'll no longer have Buffy The Vampire Slayer on after Tuesday. If you'd rather get this through e-mail then just let me know, and I'm sorry if I listed more info than you needed.

Top 5 Networks:
1:National Broadcasting Company (NBC)
2:Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS)
3:Fox Broadcasting (FOX)
4:American Broadcasting Company (ABC)
5:Warner Brothers Network (WB)

Public Reputation:
NBC = 100
CBS = 99 (The only reason for this is because they're literally a few percentage points behind in the ratings.)
FOX = 82
ABC = 76
The WB = 60

Financial Standpoint:
NBC = $15 million (Of course in real life 15 million would pay for maybe two or three episodes of Friends)
CBS = $15 million (Again, this is only because they're always fighting it out with NBC for the number one spot.)
FOX = $10 million
ABC = $8 million
The WB = $1.5 million (They're a young company that's got a VERY long way to go.)

LOGOS:
You can find a logo for each network on this one site. Although the logos are real small ... But they're the most up to date logos.
http://home.att.net/~tvthemelyrics/logos.htm
If this isn't what you're looking for let me know and I'll try and find some better ones.

DISCRIPTION OF NETWORK:
NBC: A network that's been around for 76 years. They invented "Must See TV" with such shows as Friends, Will & Grace, and ER. NBC has many of the top ranked shows on TV and have been a powerhouse for years ... The only problem is, most of those top shows are either going off the air in the next year, or the ratings for those shows are dipping.

CBS: Another network that's been around for over 50 years. CBS is constantly fighting it out with NBC for the number one spot. Right now NBC is on top, but not by much. CBS has shows that haven't been on the air very long, but are already powerhouses. CSI and CSI Miami are two of the biggest. CBS also has a lot of great comedies and also has sports like the Masters, college basketball, college football, and NFL Football.

FOX: They used to be a laughing stock of a network ... But with huge reality tv hits like Joe Millionaire and American Idol, they've managed to take over the number 3 spot in American TV. They also have NFL Football, Nascar Racing, and Major League Baseball (The World Series being the big ratings winner.)

ABC: They just celebrated the 50th year of broadcasting. They have a lot of family oriented sitcoms as well as some top of the line Drama/Action shows (Alias, Dragnet, and The Practice.) They've also had some big hits with reality tv shows. They're owned by Disney, so they tend to try and tone down some of the violence and language ... Although they do have NYPD Blue, a pretty violent show.

WB: Owned by Warner Brother's they're the little engine that could. They have a main audience of teens, but a lot of adults are starting to find some of they're highly regarded dramas. Gilmore Girls, Smallville, and Everwood are three of the big ones. Angel has been struggling lately, but it still pulls in an audience. They don't reach as many homes as the other stations, but they have been getting a lot more powerful than UPN.

Alright ... I know the descriptions were WAY to long, but I really wasn't sure exactly what you wanted to know. I can tell you every show that's on these networks and at what time they're on. I actually could get you most of the rating numbers for the show if you needed them. The only problem with American TV is the Sports factor. ABC has NHL Hockey, the Indy 500, Golf, and Monday Night Football. Of course all of those sports have seasons, so Monday Night Football is only on 17 weeks out of the year. The same is true for Fox and CBS, they have football, but only on Sunday afternoons during the season.

Like I said, e-mail me if you've got ANY QUESTIONS about American TV. And if you need any help with shows and ratings then let me know. Sorry for such a long post!

Wow, thanks a lot for that --

The descriptions were by no means too long - in fact they're just about perfect. Thanks a lot. I know the money scale is a bit ridiculous but it didn't make sense to have you shilling out millions of pounds (or dollars as the case may be) every day so I toned it down. (Anyway, try TVW - The money is like a few grand per show and stuff!)

The logos are perfect - i can easy enlarge them and the BBC/ITV logos are better than the ones i already had so i can improve them too!

I'll try to put UPN in if I can find a UK equivalent but we really only have the five (BBC, ITV, SKY, Channel 5, UKTV for anyone who's interested.)

I'll have to tone down the reputations to about by about 10 because if they're at 100 to start with, then the game has less of a fun factor.

Apart from that everything's fine and i'll get to work right away!

Matt, welcome to the TVT comunity!

Good idea Matt but i've decided to go with Bravo as the 6ixth channel simply because it is more fun to book a channel that does all round stuff rather than just music however the plan for TVT2 (a long way off yet!) will encorporate unlimited amounts of comapnies hopefully. But for now I want to get the first version out asap so i'm leaving it at six.

Jason, I need some more info that i forgot to ask for before.

Could you possibly get me the names of the owners of the 6 companies you mentioned?

Thanks in advance.

Also, would you be prepared to test TVT USA for me?
Finally, is it OK if I list you in the credits credited for the USA idea and info?

Well, the problem with the owners, is that big comapnies own each network, except for Fox. As for the testing of the USA version, I would love to! Like I said on one of the other messages on this board, I used to beta test for TNM and a few other small programs, so I have a pretty good idea as to what I'd have to do. And the credits thing is fine, it's pretty nice of you to do actually.

OWNERS:
FOX: Rupert Murdoch (He also calls his comapny News Corp.)
ABC: Disney (Yep, the same people that bring you Mickey Mouse.)
CBS: Viacom (They own MTV, TNN, CBS, UPN, and a bunch of other radio stations and smaller tv stations.)
NBC: General Electric (GE for short.)
The WB: Warner Brothers (The people that brought you Bugs Bunny.)
UPN: Viacom (I know it's weird that they're owned by the same people that own CBS, but that's American corporations for ya.)

CBS has been on top for like the past two years. Not NBC. NBC is a close second. ABC and FOX Battle for #3 a whole lot. ABC doesn't have many hit shows, therefore, Fox will probably come out in 3rd and stay there until ABC can do something about American Idol. WB & UPN battle each other a whole lot as well. With UPN always losing. The WB is the success story though cuz there audiences grew while all the other networks pretty much stayed the same. Even though it is nowhere near ABC. I know all this cuz i have to study it. I'm an aspiring Screenwriter who is only 14.

Pito,

First of all, when I originally made that post NBC had just won the major ratings period ... Like I said I work in TV, and I have for a few years. All I do is eat and breath TV, not like I love to, but because it's my job. But, like I said, when I originally posted it was just after NBC had won the major ratings period. Just because you're an aspiring screenwriter means nothing too me. Plus ... You're 14. The ratings for the entire season was just released about two weeks ago and CBS was on top, but I already told Kaos that.

As for ABC and FOX always fighting for third ... That's not exactly true. FOX has close to two million more viewers than ABC ... So it's not exactly a fight. NBC and CBS are seperated by percentage points. Ever since FOX got American Idol and Joe Millionaire on they've actually been, at times, in the first place spot. UPN and The WB aren't exactly fighting it out either. The WB has a lot more viewers than UPN does, the only winner that UPN had was Buffy and Smackdown, but Buffy's gone now. No offense, but being a screenwriter implys that you want to write for Movies, not TV. Plus, I take what I do very seriously, so if I sound like an a-hole then please forgive me.

Wait a second...I'm 14. There's nothing wrong with being young. Hell, the only people to code TV games are young - Me and Azza so don't take age as a factor. On the other hand, I have to agree with Jason on the fact that he works in TV so knows what he's saying. If you want to continue this discussion please do so in the NEW forum!
