Subject: Episode 8.13 - "RITUAL ME THIS" by Spike's Bird

Previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer…

Tara in VO: "Willow you’re using to much magic."
Shot of Willow raised off the ground from "The Powers That Do"
Amy tied up in "Gingerbread" and then turning in to a rat.
Willow telling Amy "If you really wanna be my friend you’ll leave me alone."
Xander fixing windows numerous times in season 7 whilst in VO: "It’s a loop, just like the mummy hand. I’m doomed to replace these windows for all eternity."
From "Broken Windows" Torg: "Look at you – all human and disgusting! Do you know why you’re so miserable Anyanka?"
Anya: "It’s called life."
Torg: "You can never be happy!"
From "Past Tense" - Raven: "Let’s not act all Big Bad around here. Just remember, I’m the one with the power."
Amy: "I’m just working for the higher power."
Raven: "You summoned me, I came."
From "Riding the Wave" - Raven: "I call forth the power of the four, the servants of the end. With my blood I summon thee; with my power I bind thee to my service. I beg for thy power, as an aid to my cause. Morbus, Bellari, Fames, Fera Regnare."

Teaser:

Fade into the school basement… It's dark, we can hear footsteps approaching. A sound is heard, the dull thud of a body hitting the floor. A match is lit, and the darkness is slightly illuminated. We see Raven, lying unconscious on the floor of the basement.

Dark alley, caption reads ‘Spain 1517’ Isabella and Benito are running, exhausted. They collapse on the step up to a darkened doorway. They both begin to laugh. Spanish subtitles….

Benito: Did you see their faces?

Isabella: I know! Then the other one when it turned to dust?

Benito: You truly are a remarkable Slayer Isabella, you really are destined for great things. Just like the Council said you are.

Isabella: I bet every Watcher says that to their Slayer.

They both begin to laugh again.

Present day, close up of Raven’s face, eyes closed, unconscious. Zoom out to see one of the Horsemen approaching her, he pulls Raven to her feet and ties her to a post. She slumps against it, still unconscious. The Horseman lifts her shirt slightly and slashes a knife along the exposed flesh. Close up of Raven’s face, her eyes snap open and she screams.

Opening credits, nothing new


Daytime: Anya is at the counter of the magic shop serving a customer, as the transaction is completed Anya thanks the customer.

Anya: Thank you for giving me your money!

As the customer walks towards the door it opens and a tall dark haired guy enters looking kinda shifty. Anya doesn’t notice, she’s too busy putting the money in the cash register.


Still Daytime: Xander, Willow and Faith are in the Summers’ kitchen discussing Buffy’s Birthday and the recent happenings with Raven…

Willow: Do you ever think she’ll get a normal birthday?

Faith: Doubt it

Xander: What with the demon limbs, kleptomania, vengeance demons and…

Willow: (interrupting) Ohh don’t forget Snoopy on Ice!

Xander gives her a ‘muhuh?’ look


Back at the Magic Shop…The shifty looking guy from earlier is by the magical texts, he looks over at Anya who returns the look, he quickly looks away and picks up another book.

In the kitchen at Casa Summers Xander is leaning across the counter talking to Willow who is leaning by the sink, Buffy enters from the hallway.

Buffy: Hey guys, what you doing?

Xander: Hey birthday Buffy!

Willow: How are you feeling?

Buffy: Older.

Willow: An unpleasant side effect of the birthday, but yay, gifts!

Willow then presents Buffy with a small box, Buffy opens the box and an orb of light floats out.

Buffy: Umm Will?

Willow: It’s for protection. In case Amy starts working the black magick mojo again.

Buffy, hugging Willow: Aww thanks Will, but how does it work?

Willow smiles and begins to explain as we fade out and then fade in to the Magic Box.

At the magic shop Anya is keeping a close eye on the mystery guy but he’s keeping a close eye on her too. Anya’s trying to be all ‘Mission Impossible’ hiding behind bookcases and stuff.

Back at Casa Summers Giles has turned up, there are books spread all over the table. Dawn, Andrew and Willow are researching while Giles talks with Buffy and Faith.

Faith: So what you’re saying is that the ritual is going down tonight?

Giles: Yes Faith, it would certainly appear to be.

Buffy: Oh goody, just in time for my big birthday bash!

Kennedy enters the room and looks around.

Kennedy: Research huh? That mean we got an apocalypse?

Giles: Yes Kennedy, it would appear so.

Giles then starts explaining how he found one of the misplaced Watcher’s Council files containing a few bits of information on Raven. How the Council knew all along that there would be a sired Slayer and she would be instrumental in bringing about the apocalypse. He talks of her power, raising the Horsemen, but then states that is not the end of the destruction, there’s something worse, much worse to follow only the last part of the files are missing so the Scoobies are clueless as to what that power might be. Willow looks a little uncomfortable, no one notices. Willow notices something in one of the books in front of her.

Willow: Giles! Look, I think I found something.


Meanwhile at the magic shop Anya walks over to the mystery guy and asks ‘Are you gonna buy that? Coz you know we’re not a library.’ Mystery guy looks kinda embarrassed, just manages a few ‘ums’ Anya looks at him, willing him to say something more interesting. He looks really embarrassed.

Back to the basement… Close up of Ravens face, she is in obvious pain and is vamped out. Zoom out, three of the Horsemen stand around smirking:

"The rope is enchanted, struggle all you like, you’ll never get free!"

Back at Casa Summers, Giles’ is reading from the book.

Giles: I’m afraid I’m not too sure of the exact translation. I think it says (reading slowly) Under the full moon the blood of the fallen warrior must be given back to the earth.

Buffy: Ok, and in English?

Dawn: It’s her, Raven. She has to die.

Xander: Well, yeah I thought we already established that... Oh.

Giles: Dawn’s right. Raven does indeed have to die. Only it’s not as simple as that, the rest of the volume goes into a lot of detail, but basically when Raven’s blood makes contact with the ground in the right conditions it will be...

Willow: Apocalyptic.

Faith: Oh goody! Another apocalypse, just what we needed!

Back in the basement Raven’s blood spills onto the floor, as the first drop hits the floor the ground begins to shake slightly.

Night time: Spike is walking up the path towards Buffy’s house when the ground begins to shake.

Spike: Well this can’t be good!

Commercials – Buy the new and improved SpikeBot, which now comes with his very own sock!


Interior at Casa Summers, the ground is still shaking as Spike walks through the door.

Andrew: Looks like it’s started then?

Giles: Indeed.


Back in the basement, Raven is still tied up, much like Amy was in "Gingerbread", her blood is still dripping down to the floor. She is vamped out. The ground is still shaking. One of the Horsemen is still chanting.

Magic Box – Books are falling off the shelves, crashes are heard. Anya and Mystery Guy stumble towards each other, he puts a protective arm around her and pulls her out the way of a falling bookcase. They fall backwards and land in a heap on the floor.

Mystery Guy: Hi! I’m Jack by the way.

There is an obvious spark between them, they move closer together it looks like they are going to kiss when suddenly Anya pulls Jack out of the way of falling books. She somehow manages to roll them both so she is on top of him.

Anya: Anya, nice to meet you.

A somewhat nervous yet impressed look from Jack.

Casa Summers – The Scoobies decide they need to act fast, Faith, Kennedy, Giles and Spike are headed towards the school, meanwhile Buffy, Willow, Xander and Dawn are off to get some information from Amy. Xander looks a little uncomfortable with this arrangement but says nothing. Andrew stays at the house calling after Xander…

Andrew: Xander, I’m gonna get your tools ready, shall I get the boards out of the basement?

Back in the school basement Raven has slipped into unconsciousness again.

Fade out to fade in on ‘Spain 1518’ we see Benito sitting at a desk with three members of the Watcher’s Council standing around him.

1st Council Member: Benito it would be wise for us to terminate the Slayer’s duties until further notice.

Benito: But Sir… why? She has proved herself to be a truly remarkable Slayer, completely unique.

2nd Council Member: Yes Benito, she is both remarkable and unique, that is the problem.

Benito: What do you mean?

2nd Council Member: It is our understanding that your Slayer will be the undoing of our whole organisation.

Benito looks stunned and confused, then angry.

Benito: How can you say this? She has survived this long and has proved her loyalty to both her duties and the Council.

1st Council Member: There is a prophecy Benito, one, which we think your Slayer, will fulfil. The prophecy involves the turning of a Slayer.

Benito gasps and looks shocked and upset, then angry.

Benito (shouting): How dare you! Isabella has risked her life for you every night since she was chosen and this is how you repay her? You really think she would betray everything she has worked for?

2nd Council Member: Benito, it is written in the scriptures. We have no alternative, we have to terminate her and you will help us.

Benito gasps: (whispered) No, never.

3rd Council Member steps forward chanting.

1st Council Member: Benito, you will have no recollection of this meeting, you will do as we tell you.

Benito’s head slumps forward. He appears to be unconscious. Zoom out, through the window, we saw the whole scene through the window from Isabella’s prospective. We see a tear run down her cheek, she turns and runs down a darkened street.

Commercials: Why settle for one Spikebot when you can have TWO? Go on buy another one!

Present day, back in the basement Raven is still tied up a tear runs down her cheek. The ground shaking begins to ease.

The Horsemen gather around her and begin taunting her, they can see into her mind, see what she sees.

1st Horseman: Well wasn’t that nice, the mean old council wanted to kill you.

2nd Horseman: They should have killed you when they had the chance.

Raven slowly regains consciousness. A crash is heard from somewhere in the basement, the chanting Horseman stops chanting.

3rd Horseman: Even Benito couldn’t save you.

At the mention of Benito’s name Raven’s eyes get wide and she smirks. She kicks out and somehow manages to break free of the ropes. It seems the ropes were only enchanted as long as the spell was being recited. The Horsemen are obviously stunned. A big fight begins with Raven taking the upperhand. Three of the Horsemen participate in the brawl, the forth disappears into the shadows.
Fade out, fade in on Giles, Kennedy, Spike and Faith are making their way through the halls of the High School. They hear the brawl and head towards the basement entrance, Giles suggests they call Buffy and the rest of the Scoobies to help.

Giles: We don’t know whats down there, how many or how strong.

Faith: Chill out Jeeves, whatever's down there cant be any worse that whats already come crawling out of the Hellmouth or that freaky looking seal.

Spike:Even if it is anything that’s already crawled out of there we’re still gonna need Buffy.

Kennedy: I don’t know, I think we can handle ourselves. Right Faith?

Spike gives Faith a pointed look, she groans.

Faith: Fine! Go get Little Miss Likes-to fight.

Spike: Be careful, don’t do anything drastic til I bring Buffy back.

Scene cuts as Spike runs off to get Buffy, leaving the others cautiously opening the door. |Just as they open the door the ground stops shaking.

Kennedy: Does that mean we won?

Back to Andrew at the Summers house, we see him through the kitchen window, he is dancing around, much like Dawn was in ‘Coversations With Dead People’. Inside the kitchen Andrew turns on the tap, a snake slides out from inside the tap. Andrew doesn’t notice at first, when he does he screams.

Buffy, Willow, Xander and Dawn are inside Amy’s house, the place is deserted.

Xander: Gee, do you think she knew we were coming?

The gang move through the house, room by room looking for clues. Dawn finds Amy’s spellbooks, she is particularly drawn to one with a snake emblem on the front. Willow takes the book from Dawn, for a second we see Darth Willow, all black eyed and veiny before she regains control and looks like her usual self.

Back in the basement as the battle continues the 4th Horseman moves slowly forward out of the shadows chanting a scattering some kind of purple powder looks to be purifying the ground. Every spot the powder hits a tiny crack appears in the concrete.

Back at Amy’s house the gang are satisfied they have everything they are going to find, just as they are leaving Spike approaches and begins to explain quickly about the brawl seemingly happening in the school basement. The gang decide they need to split up, Willow suggests Dawn and Xander go back to Casa Summers. Dawn can gather magickal supplies, while Xander can fetch weapons. Buffy and Willow follow Spike back to the school.
In the kitchen at Casa Summers snakes are still slithering from the tap, they fill the sink and a slithering across the counter, Andrew is backed up against the wall panicking. Outside we see a figure in the shadows. Back inside the house Dawn and Xander enter through the front door and are greeted with a scream from Andrew. They both run into the kitchen and look around.

Xander: Carpenter, not plumber! You guys are gonna have to find someone else for all your household maintenance needs!

Dawn chants something, it sounds Latin. She holds her palm towards the snakes blue sparks fly from her fingertips seeming to hypnotize the snakes.

Dawn: Return!

The snakes disappear and we hear a female scream from outside. Andrew, Dawn and Xander run to the window only to see a figure running through the garden, the garden is in complete darkness so they cant make out who the figure is.

Andrew: Who was that?

Xander: Probably just your friendly neighbourhood burglar.

Commercials – Buy more bots!

At the Magic shop Jack has stayed and is helping Anya tidy the shop, they are obviously flirting. Jack explains that he’s been interested in Anya for some time but heard she was getting married.

Anya: Oh please! That? It was never serious, it’s not like I was in love with him and wanted to spend the rest of my unjustifiably short mortal life with him.

Jack nods, Anya continues.

Anya: I was just young and horny, I hadn’t had a good tumble in like a thous… well it was a while.

Jack looks taken aback but smiles.

Jack: At least you’re honest, most girls round here aren’t.

Anya: Honest, that’s me. Always saying what I think no matter what…. Are we going to have sex?

Jack is a little stunned, but smiles again.

Jack: I was going to ask you out, you know dinner? A movie?

Anya looks a little disappointed, then hopeful.

Anya: So we’re taking things slow?

Jack: Yes, if that’s ok with you?

Anya: I’d like that.

They move closer.

Jack: Anya, may I kiss…

Before Jack finishes his sentence Anya is kissing him.

Back in the basement Raven is still battling the three of the Horsemen, they seem to have the upperhand. The fourth Horseman is still scattering the purple powder and chanting, the cracks in the ground are getting bigger. Suddenly Faith, Kennedy and Giles burst in. Everyone is fighting.

Spike, Buffy and Willow are outside the school. Willow drops to the floor in pain. Buffy and Spike stop, obviously concerned.

Buffy: Will? What is it?

Willow: It’s coming, Buffy I can feel it. It’s on its way.

Spike: What is? What’s coming?

Willow: The hellmouth…. Its… Oh God Buffy!

Back in the basement the cracks in the ground are growing larger. In the confusion of the fight Raven manages to back away. One of the horsemen has a crossbow aimed at Giles, just as the bolt is fired towards his chest Raven catches the bolt in mid air just before it makes contact and snaps it in half. Giles looks confused.

Raven: You know for a Watcher you really need to watch things more closely.

The brawl continues as Raven slips off into the darkness. The fourth Horseman finishes with the powder and shouts

4th Horseman: Now!

The Horsemen rush over to the spot where the powder was scattered and turn their weapons on themselves. There is a bright flash of green light, we briefly see a snake before the light gets brighter. The ground begins to shake again and the concrete opens, the cracks lengthen, the whole basement looks like its going to disappear into the hellmouth.

Kennedy: What the?

Giles: I was afraid of this.

The cracks grow even more, the Horsemen explode in a cloud of green smoke, the floor of the basement falls away to reveal the Hellmouth. Kennedy, Giles and Faith all fall into the Hellmouth. The screen goes black.

Outside the school, close up of Willow, her eyes are closed. Her eyes snap open, they are black she screams.

Willow: Nooooooooo

Grrr Argh
