Previously...She pulls into the parking lot of the police department and turns off her car. As she stares at the building in front of her, a wave of anxiety passes through her. She checks her hair in the rearview mirror, and gets out of the car. She smoothes the skirt of her black suit before wrapping her long black wool coat tightly around her. As she heads towards the door of the PD, she notices dark gray clouds in the distance.

Storm's brewin...

*****

The aroma of coffee immediately hits her as she walks into the Llanview Police Department. She grins slightly, remembering just how bad the coffee at the PD was. With a determined straightening of her shoulders, she walks into the squad room. She feels several pairs of eyes on her as she searches out Bo. She can almost read their minds...

Wonder what she's doing back...

Guess he didn't off her...

She smirks slightly to herself, being able to imagine what some people thought when Todd came back to Llanview alone, combined with the smart ass comments she was sure he made. She turns her head slightly as she hears a familiar voice entering the squad room.

"Yeah, get Pellegrino on it right away, and ..." he stops as he spots her, eyes opening in shock. Téa grins slightly, walking towards him.

"What's the matter, John? You look like you've seen a ghost."

John Sykes lets out a breath, shaking his head slightly. "Well, thank God I'm not. Where the hell have you been? You know a lot of people have been very worried about you."

"Well, as you can see, I'm perfectly fine."

"You know, you might have let someone know that."

"I didn't think I had to."

"Oh come on Téa, you leave town with a known psycho, a few months later he comes back without you, and no one hears a word from you? Can't blame us for expecting the worst."

"I assume by 'known psycho' you're referring to Todd?"

"Who else? Bo and Hank have been trying to find you for a while now. Is that why you're here? Bo didn't tell me that he had found you."

"I didn't know Bo was looking. Why would he be looking for me?"

"Well you were a witness to RJ's shooting, and since the case is still open...but wait, if that's not why you're here...why ARE...," he pauses, and Téa notices him roll his eyes as realization dawns on him. "Please...please don't tell me you're here to represent that scumbag."

"I would appreciate it if you would refrain from name calling when it comes to my client," Téa says, grinning slightly.

"Has he known where you were this whole time?"

"No, but let's just say he made very wise use of his one phone call."

"I can't believe this. Don't you ever learn?"

"Look, I really don't need the lecture okay? I'm a big girl, and quite capable of making my own decisions. And my decision right now is that I would like to go see my client."

John shakes his head. "Fine," he mutters. "I better go fill in Bo. This'll just make his day," he mumbles, heading for Bo's office. As he does, he motions for an officer to escort Téa down to the jail. Rubbing her hands together nervously, Téa follows him. She isn't sure what to expect...feeling that familiar turmoil that was always stirred up inside of her whenever she was near Todd. The realization that that turmoil was the only thing that proved to her she was still alive at this point was not lost on her. He was right, all those months ago, when he told her that he made her feel alive. He did, and it terrified her and excited her all at the same time. No one before him or since had ever made her feel that way, so utterly...out of control. What scared her even more was she loved that feeling...that feeling that only he gave her. Which is why it was that much harder when things fell apart.

As she comes to the gate, she stops for a moment, mentally preparing herself. Taking a deep breath, she makes sure the 'armor' is in place, willing herself not to let his pain, his need, get to her. She shakes her head slightly at the irony. If his 'need' could get to her in New York, she was going to be a goner in the close confines of his jail cell.

She walks slowly to the gate, peering through. Just the sight of him causes a lump to form in her throat. Sitting on the cot, head in his hands, she has the overwhelming urge to take him in her arms, stroke his hair, whisper how much she loves him, how she'd take care of him....the way she'd spent many a night after they'd left Llanview when his father haunted his dreams. She had this overwhelming need to take his pain into her, to suffer his pain so he wouldn't have to deal with it. Her way of avoidance...dealing with his pain, his demons was the perfect way to avoid her own.

She jumps slightly as she hears a clap of thunder...the oncoming storm now settling over Llanview. What is it with us and storms?. Her mind wanders back to the storm the day he came for her, the storm the day she left him....in both cases, the storms were both outside and internal....but that was nothing new with them.

Finally, she nods to the guard, who unlocks the gate to allow her into the cell area. The click of the lock snaps Todd out of his thoughts, and he quickly jumps up, turning towards the sound. His eyes widen as he sees her standing on the other side of the bars.

"Tea," he says softly.

To Be continued...
