Besides the last couplet, the sonnet portrays the poet's mistress as what a beautiful woman is not, and gives the impression that he does not love her. However, the couplet at the end of the sonnet surprises the reader when it turns out that he actually loves her deeply instead of despising her. Shakespeare uses a 'feminine ending' on the line "and yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare" because it has 11 syllables instead of the regular 10 syllables. Also, it is somewhat humorous in insulting the poet's mistress compared to the romantic and lovesick sonnet number 73.
