You may find that tapping the float bowl will seat the valve IF its that..
I have found the gasket in the float bowl getting pinched or dislodged when replacing it will cause the same issue.. Watch where its leaking from..
If you havent replaced the gaskets, do so.. after X years.. they crush and wont seal properly..
There is some sticky gasket preparation goo available at autozone ec to help hold a seal in place...
