No the tank is not lined. I removed the sending unit from the tank after syphoning the gas out and found rust. I then took the frame apart and removed the tank. Time consuming but not difficult. After searching u-tube for tank cleaning ideas I put pea gravel in the tank, and lashed it to a crank contraption on sawhorses like a pig on a spit. This loosened the bulk of the rust. Actually it worked best to just shake the gravel around holding the tank. Then I washed the tank out with CLR and lots of water. My dog blow dryer hose fit perfectly in the sending hole, just let it blow dry for about an hour. I didn't use sealer, read somewhere they can clog the small fittings. should be good for another 22 years.
