i am assuming you are refering to the 8x10 rack tom being before the 7x8 rack tom in the front. they are backwards for two reasons. the first reason is because the 7x8 is shorter than the 8x10 so i can get the toms lower than if i had them the other way around. the second reason is because i like having the 8x10 and the 11x14 tom in the configuration of a four peice set. so it is like i have a standard four peice set with the addition of the 7x8 and the 13x16. other drummers that do this are kenny aronoff, tony royster jr., and billy cobham.
