.:. He removed cold hands from an even colder sink as her mental trap fell on him. It was like being thump in the brain by one of those boys at school that practices thumping all through English. It hurt but he would show no outward sign of that pain. He bit his tongue and choked back the words. He hadn’t really wanted to anyway. Sour grapes, I guess. Apples? Random fruit connection. Her words had alerted him to her needs and he twirled (yes twirled!) around on his socked feet. They slid effortlessly across the tile void of all friction. That was also one of his favorite things about socked feet. It also helped that if you didn’t sweep the floor you couldn’t really feel the dirt sticking to your feet through a sock. He liked that part too. He just liked socks.

He put his hand on the polish stainless steel handle and pulled. He could feel the suction of the refrigerator at the corners of his mind and could taste the dehydrated air inside it immediately. He moved a head (of lettuce) out of the way to reveal a white bowl. Its edges were delicate and it was obvious that this bowl at been a prized piece by its sculpture. It was just a shame that his body lay lifeless in the ground somewhere.

Zeth’s fingers traced the edges of the bowl, admired the contrast of the starch white bowl and the green apples in side. They were large apples. They were almost fake looking with their robust size. They were different shades of green but all closely related. It never would have occurred to a human the type of coordination each fruit had. They were light green at the thickest part but grew darker where the brown stem emerged. Zeth plucked out the one on top and moved to the counter.

He set it beside the pendant with a weary glance. The side closed Tarot was blushed with a soft pink and dotted with yellow here and there. It wasn’t perfect but it was beautiful. Even the small brown spot near the stem, more than likely caused by its previously decorated leaves, made it all the more attractive to Zeth. It was truly one of a kind.

His eyes reluctantly slid off the apple and to the pedant. “What is there to do with it?” He asked softly. He wouldn’t admit that he was scared. He could use her intellect, surely. “I know it has something to do with Bri.” He let his mind open enough to give a brief generalization of what Bri was. She was a scorned lover of Zeth’s. She’s stolen one of Alicia’s twins while she was in womb. She was Lucian, Audrey, and Bleidd’s mommy. The recap took all of four seconds and he sent images and emotions with it. He was worried about Bri because Lucian had said she resided in stone. He knew she was trapped.

He met Tarot’s eyes again, once she knew what she needed to know. “This was Lucian’s. He left it for me on purpose. That much I know. Then Audrey, his step sister, showed up the next day on behalf of her mom. I don’t know what this pedant has to do with everything but I know it’s involved. Is there a way we can determine it’s purpose?”
