When Corum suggested rushing off to the tower to pick up some food, Marz grinned. Why didn't I think of that? His friend was an absolute genius! Waking up to a decent meal would make Tristan really happy. His lover always seemed to exert a lot of energy while in dragon form and it left him ravenous. Jeremy's junk food wouldn't be enough to satisfy his appetite, even a little bit.

Marz stayed close to Corum as they made their way down the tunnel. Having someone with him kept his claustrophobia at bay. He probably wouldn't have been able to travel the tunnel alone, but no one needed to know that.

Once they were in the tower kitchen, Marz grabbed the bag of magically preserved food that Kazabet had packed for them. Justin sat at the table with Alakbar and a couple of the Jann. They all seemed to be enjoying the beef roast that Marz had cooked earlier. Almost immediately, the Jann began questioning him about the Peacock Throne.

"We haven't found it yet," Marz told them. "We did find an underground village of sorts which we're going to explore after a few hours of sleep, so don't expect us back here for quite a while." He slipped his arms through the straps of the food bag, letting it rest against his back before following Corum outside where the sun was just beginning to rise. Soon, it would be blistering hot, but hopefully they'd sleep through the morning and start exploring in late afternoon when the temperature started to fall.

When Corum pointed out something that glittered next to some rocks, they moved toward the area to investigate. Since Marz had never seen a crystal ball before he thought that the clear, fist-sized globe he stared down at was some kind of diamond. "This has got to be worth a fortune!" Instead of sharing his excitement, Corum started muttering about them having company.

The globe was forgotten when Marz saw the two hairy beasts that rushed at them. Corum intercepted one before Marz was able to withdraw his sword. Once he had the weapon in hand, he attacked the second monstrosity with a vengeance. The creature went into a rage when Marz managed to slice it across its meaty thigh. Its massive paw came up and connected with the ex-gang leader's wrist, knocking the sword from his hand. Sharp claws left bloody gashes across Marz's back when he dove for his blade. As his fingers curled around the hilt, the hairy beast delivered a vicious kick to his side. Marz let out a grunt of pain then gritted his teeth and got to his feet.

The monster snarled, displaying rows of sharp teeth that could easily bite off an arm, or a head for that matter. When the creature swung its arm like a club, Marz ducked the blow then plunged his blade into the beast's stomach. The monster roared as it grabbed the ex-gang leader by his hair, lifting him into the air with ease.

Immediately Marz let go of his sword, which was still in the creature's abdomen, his hands flying up to latch onto the monster's arms instead. The beast shook him like a rag doll, while blood poured down from the wound in its stomach. Marz held on to the creature's hairy arms to relieve the pressure on his hair, which felt like it was about to be ripped out from his skull. He struggled and kicked at the thing until it finally loosened its grip, dropping him to the ground like a sack of potatoes. The beast's leg shot out, delivering another vicious kick to Marz's side before it toppled to its death.

The ex-gang leader lay on the ground panting for a moment. He rubbed his head, his hand coming away with clumps of his beautiful, dark hair. Cursing at the intense pain in his side, he rose to his knees. Already he could envision the gross looking bruise that was probably taking shape beneath his shirt at that moment. After finally staggering to his feet, he pulled his sword out of the creature's gut and wiped it clean on hairy carcass before turning to Corum. He was relieved to see that his friend had killed the other beast without needing his assistance.

Marz sheathed his blade then stumbled his way to the crystal ball. Once he had the item safely tucked away in his waist pouch, he announced he was ready to return to the temple. While they walked along, he continued to rub his aching side, and became vividly aware of sweat stinging the gashes on his back. "I'm really looking forward to a nice long soaking in that hot spring," he said, as they entered the temple and made their way down to the village below.

After leaving the bag of food with the Jann that was cooking, Marz headed to the water, his movements much slower than normal. Although he was able to ignore pain, his body still reacted to his injuries, refusing to move as quickly as his mind wanted it to. He nodded at Tia, who was staring at a submerged Rowan then he slipped behind a stalagmite to undress. Since his fellow adventurers seemed awfully uptight about viewing a naked body he left his flimsy undergarment on, the thing barely covering what needed to be covered.

While rubbing his sore head, Marz moved closer to the water, an ugly purple bruise discoloring the left side of his deeply tanned torso. Rather gingerly, he made his way into the hot spring, sighing contentedly as the warm water met his aching body. He sat down near the edge of the spring and leaned his back against a smooth portion of stone. The warm water covered him like a blanket now, caressing his weary muscles.

"Hey Rowan," he called when he saw the elf splashing nearby. "Can you take a look at the top of my head and let me know if I have any ugly, bald spots there? A raking monster tried to pull out all my head a little while ago, and I need to know if I look like a partially shaved Sharm head or something worse now."
