Subject: You gotta watch out for those traps!
In reply to: Tristan 's message, "Disbelief" on 01:24:30 03/22/02 Fri

Following Corum's example Tia began searching the room, looking for stuff. Beneath one of the beds she found a medallion of a demon copulating with a goat. The thing was so hideous she decided to leave it on the floor under the bed where it had probably rested for years. This temple made her uneasy because it was becoming more and more obvious that devils and demons had once been worshipped here.

When Marz finally appeared in the doorway to announce that they were ready to descend the stairs, Jeremy spoke up. "You said I could use the mirror when Tristan was done with it."

"Make it quick," he ex-gang leader said, his arm draped around Tristan's shoulders.

Jeremy grinned as he ran back to the room housing the mirror, followed by the blonde thief. While he stood before his reflection trying to decide what he wanted to see, Tia took a closer look at the relics that were present. She stuffed one of the smaller jeweled crowns into her pack along with the miniature jade statues of strange gods. When she looked over at Jeremy she saw tears rolling down his cheeks. "What happened?" she asked, rushing to his side.

"It took a while for the image to appear, but I finally got to see my uncle Paul." Jeremy brushed away his tears before turning away from the mirror to face the pretty thief. "I really miss my uncle and all my friends back home."

Tia wrapped her arms around the taller boy's waist, holding him close. Since she didn't want to fill him with false hopes of finding a way back to his world someday, she remained quiet. Sometimes a hug was worth more than a hundred words anyway. When Jeremy announced he was ready to move on, they joined the others in the main chamber.

An aggravated look covered Marz's face when they reached the bottom of the staircase to find Rowan leafing through a book. Obviously, the members of this group were having a hard time following his orders! He glanced at a passageway located at the far end of the room they were in then made his way to the books. While keeping Jade's description in mind, Marz searched through the various tomes. "Most of these appear to be about demon summoning, devil worship, and human sacrifices."

"We should not be wasting our time with such nonsense," Benis piped up. "We are to be searching for the Peacock Throne!"

Anger flashed in Marz's eyes as he stared at the tall Jann. The jerk was really staring to piss him off! Marz gave the books a final glance then stomped over to the wide passageway. "Fine, let's go!" he called out, before making his way down the tunnel.

Tia shook her head as she hurried after the others. She doubted that Marz was keeping his eyes open for traps considering how quickly he moved. Several minutes later they reached a huge chamber with a heavy bronze door set into the east wall. A number of stone columns ran down the center of the chamber, supporting the high ceiling. Dozens of slithering, jet-black snakes covered each of the columns. Although they looked sinister, they seemed to ignore the humans that had entered the room. While everyone stared at the different sized snakes on the columns, Marz hurried to the bronze door.

"Wait!" Tia cried, but it was too late.

Five feet before the door a large circular section of the floor collapsed. Marz let out a yell as he fell into the pit. Luckily, a thick bed of plump snakes cushioned his thirty-foot fall. He winced at an ache in his leg when he scurried off the small hill of reptiles. An instant later his eyes widened in alarm when he saw a few giant snakes slithering toward him from the far corner of the approximately 30 by 30 foot hole he was in.

Marz withdrew his sword and took a step back, falling to his knees when he slipped on discarded snakeskins. He righted himself quickly and prepared to do battle with the giant reptiles that headed his way.
