Subject: Foolishness never goes unpunished
In reply to: Ravin 's message, "And sometimes they gain nothing" on 10:14:48 02/04/02 Mon

The whiskey, which she was so unused to drinking, was working to numb the pain in her leg, but it also seemed to be having other effects. Isobel felt all warm and flushed... as if there was a fire in her belly and in her breast... suddenly she felt very much like smothering Ravin with kisses, tasting his lips, letting her body press to his. She leaned close and murmured a remark that may have been enticing or may have been simply stupid from the whiskey.

Apparently it was the latter, for Ravin suddenly pulled away and grabbed the flask, gulping from it as he lay down. He spilled whiskey on his chest and she had the most indecent urge to lean over and lick it off. She was in the process of turning to do just that when Ravin spoke. She stopped, listening. What is wrong with me? Am I a puta out to bed any man who crosses my path? Well, obviously that was not the case or she could have had feo Justin anytime.

"You're a very beautiful woman," Ravin said softly. "Normally, I have excellent self control around beautiful women, but it’s slipping because of the whiskey." Let it slip! she wanted to say, but she held her foolish tongue. Ravin sat up and gathered his things. "I better leave now, before I make a fool of myself by pulling you into my arms and……"

She watched him as he staggered off toward one of the tents, then reached over and grabbed her pantalones, which were laying all crumpled nearby. "Idiot woman! What did you think you were doing? Of course he does not want you. Stupid, stupid, stupid!" She admonished herself quietly as she pulled her pantalones on. Why were her eyes burning? Ay! She was practically crying with shame! Oh what a foolish thing to do.

She sighed and sat down on the bank, wiping at her eyes before someone saw her weakness. She cursed softly under her breath and hurled a pebble out into the lake. Furiously, she grabbed the locket around her neck and pulled it up to look at it. "I hate you Juan," she snarled as she yanked the chain from her neck. She looked at the locket for a moment then stood up and hurled it into the lake. She watched it make a tiny splash and envisioned it sinking to the bottom.

She had no room in her life for such foolish sentiment. And Juan had no hold over her any longer.

She turned wiping at her eyes one last time and headed back to the fire. She ignored Argus, who was staring at her, and gathered her things. Then she stalked over to the tents and entered an empty one, laying out her cloak and throwing herself down onto it.

She lay there, trying to understand what had possessed her to act so brazenly toward Ravin, whom she barely knew. Even now she found herself wondering what it would feel like to have his arms around her... to be pressed against him, feel his skin against hers... his breath on her cheek... his hands on her body. Obviously she found him attractive, but it was apparent he did not share this feeling. So why had she so foolishly done it? She decided it must have been the whiskey, and vowed to herself never to touch the stuff again.

She rolled onto her side, facing away from the tent flap, and closed her eyes. It was a long time before she managed to sleep.
