"Don't lie to me!" Tristan snapped.

Marz flinched when the dragon wrenched his hand away and stalked away from him. He closed his eyes while letting out a long, deep sigh. Saying that Eremis was going to be all right was indeed a lie. His intention was to save Tristan from the pain of knowing the truth. Tegol's men would strip away whatever dignity the young healer had left, turning him into a mindless slave who would do anything for the drugs they would addict him to.

IF Eremis was lucky, he'd be taken in by one of the mercenaries who preferred boys. The merc would treat him like a prized pet for a time as long as he did what he was told to do then toss him to the wolves once he grew bored. If Eremis were smart he'd kill himself before that happened because the low life thugs in the organization made it a living hell for those with pretty faces, who lacked courage.

The ex-gang leader saw this happen before with many who got involved with Tegol's organization. His own gang members were gullible enough to indulge in the drugs the crimelord handed out like candy. Soon, they no longer looked up to Marz; the drugs in their systems making them feel too superior to need him for guidance. Because Marz couldn't be tempted to indulge in any narcotics, Tegol had hopes of making him a lieutenant one day. The crimelord wanted his commanders clear headed, yet enjoyed seeing the street punks he took into the organization begging for a fix.

After a while, Marz made his way to where Tristan was resting his head against a tree. Not caring who saw them he put his arm around the dragon, prepared to deal with his anger at begin touched in public. When Tristan didn't push him away, he pulled him into an embrace, lightly massaging his back as he spoke. "I know you're worried about Eremis. Even if you don’t believe me, I'm worried about him too. I might be a little jealous of Eremis, Tris, but I don't hate him."

He kissed the top of his lover's head then stared off into space. "I promise you that that bastard Tegol will die. And, if I have anything to say about it, he'll suffer long and hard before he draws his final breath."
