In reply to: Ravin 's message, "Questioning the genie" on 12:16:10 01/25/02 Fri

Sarosh had been sitting quietly trying not to feel uncomfortable. He knew about the Marz-Tristan-Jeremy dynamic now, and wished he were somewhere else. But somewhere else right now involved the strange man from the mirror and Tia pushing him out of the way rather abruptly. He wondered if there was something to that that he hadn’t picked up on at first.

Saras took a mug of Java when it was passed around to him and sipped at it cautiously wincing at the bitter taste and deciding that he didn’t like it. He instead used it to warm his hands. Not that he was cold, but being a creature of fire, he was never really too hot, either. While Sarosh didn’t like the Java, he found Jeremy’s Twinky to be something else entirely. The spongy gold cake was tastier then anything he had tried yet from the youth’s bag, and he gave Jeremy a bright smile of thanks as he licked the white cream from his fingers. He couldn’t help but wonder what else Jeremy had in his bag, since he always seemed to pull such strange and interesting things from it. He wondered if Magical bags like that were common on his world.

Saras looked up with a bit of surprise when Ravin came to join them by the fire. Saras gave him a dazzling smile, wondering if Ravin had thought of another wish already. After his kind words when he had been crying, Saras had decided Ravin did indeed like him, although he wondered how much the man would trust him after the wish had gone so wrong.

"Tell me a little more about your abilities," he said, turning to the genie. "Obviously, you can start fires since I saw you start this one. Do you know how to wield a sword, or are there any other spells you can use to protect, or defend yourself should we get involved in combat?"

Blinking, Sarash tried to understand what Ravin was asking. Use his abilities to hurt others? He had never even entertained the idea, although he’d had masters who had needed used his magic to take control of things…

“I’ve never needed a sword. My magic has always been enough.” Saras said proudly. He paused for a moment before the smile faded a little bit. “That was of course, when I was sure about it… Now, I’m not so sure… Fire is my friend, and before I slept, the desert storm would come to me as well…”

Wrapping his fingers around the mug of Java, Saras looked into the flickering fire while it crackled and snapped with contentment. “Of course… I told you about the wishes… so now I do not know... And I wouldn’t dare call a storm unless I absolutely needed to. They’re not as friendly as fire..” he said, glancing away from the fire and back to Ravin. “Of course, if the wishes work now, you could always wish to be safe, and it might work…”

Even if Ravin had told Saras that the wishes weren’t important, Saras knew that they were tempting to humans. They had the ability to make real something that the heart longed for. To make it real… at least, they would if Saras were any sort of a real genie. It had only sort of worked with the reading wish, but it had been more then Saras had hoped for. It had left him feeling empty inside (something Jeremy’s endless supply of junk food was solving strangly enough) but it was his life to grant wish after wish. He brushed his long hair over his shoulder and looked into the dark Java. “I don’t mind if you make wishes. It’s what I’m supposed to do. “ he said, looking over at Ravin.
