Chapter 11
**Penthouse 2**
Lucky looked into Elizabeth’s waiting eyes, torn up over what to say, what to do. He just couldn’t do it, couldn’t go through with it. Not because he didn’t want her, he wanted her more than anything, but because he didn’t feel like he deserved her. There was so much she didn’t know, wouldn’t understand, Lucky didn’t want to put her through it.
“We can’t Elizabeth,” he whispered, his eyes telling another story.
“Why Lucky? I know you want me, and I love you . . . I just want to show you how much. Don’t be scared,” she whispered soothingly as she placed her hand on his chest. This wasn’t about sex for Liz, it was about finally finding the one person she felt at home with. It was fast and somewhat scary, but it made her feel alive. She wanted to show him exactly how.
“It’s not like that Elizabeth. I just . . . we shouldn’t,” he hesitated, turning his back and facing the window.
“Talk to me Lucky, something is bothering you and I just want to help,” she told him honestly, trying to make him trust her. “We can face anything together, I want you to believe that.”
“I do, and I trust you with my life, but we can’t sleep together, it wouldn’t be . . . I’m not who you think I am,” he whispered, his voice full of pain and shame.
Elizabeth stared at his tensed back for a moment, unsure if she heard him correctly. “You’re not who I think you are? Maybe, you’re more than I think. When I dreamt about meeting the man I would . . .”
“That’s not what I mean Elizabeth,” Lucky said harshly as he turned to face her, instantly wishing he could take back his words.
She stood her ground. Elizabeth knew something was wrong, something more than just worrying about rushing into sex.
“Then tell me what you mean Lucky. I love you and I respect you, let me in.”
“You couldn’t understand, I don’t understand,” Lucky explained quickly.
“What is it Lucky? What wouldn’t I understand? Are you . . . are you a virgin? If that’s the case, I understand and it is not something to be ashamed of, you should be proud of it. I wish I were,” Liz confessed. She knew that wasn’t the problem, but she prayed it would help him open up, get him talking.
“I wish I were too, but I’m not, and that is what kills me.” Lucky moved his eyes from their locked position on the ground to Elizabeth. She was confused, but didn’t look shocked or hurt or anything, just loving.
“God Lucky, that’s not a big deal. You’re young, attractive, charming . . . it’s totally understandable,” she told him. The look in his eyes was more than just regret though and it scared her.
“You are so amazing and so innocent,” Lucky said wistfully. He touched his hand to her cheek, sighing deeply. He wanted to tell her, to confess it all. But what if she didn’t understand? What if she was horrified by his story, by who he was? He couldn’t lose her.
But he’d lose her if he didn’t tell. He was so lost, so much in pain, he just wanted someone to tell, someone to tell him everything would be alright.
Something he really believed wasn’t possible.
“Whatever is wrong, no matter what, I’ll stand by you. Never in my life did I feel so much for one person, nothing you tell me will change that . . . nothing,” she said, whispering the last word so that it echoed through his body.
“You’re amazing . . .” he stepped forward to touch her again, “And I almost believe you.”
“Damnit Lucky, I know you are dealing with something . . .awful, it’s in your eyes. Just let me in. I swear to you I won’t run, I won’t flinch, give me the chance to prove it.”
“I don’t know if . . . if I even understand it enough to explain it Elizabeth. I’ve had to live with it for so many years now, it’s become part of who I am . . .” Lucky’s voice trailed off as he turned to look out the window.
He took a long, steadying breath as he centered his thoughts on the one thing that tormented him. “I was fifteen and growing increasingly restless with my life. Helena . . . she loved to torture me with the knowledge that my life as I lived it was a sham. She told me everything about Port Charles, about my family, about the people who would have been my friends. I couldn’t take it . . . I was just a kid, my emotions and instincts were so raw.
“I shouldn’t have done it though, I shouldn’t have. Because if I could have controlled myself, stopped myself, none of what came next would have happened.”
Elizabeth stood back, listening intently. She wished Lucky would turn around and look her in the eye, but she would take what she could get. She wanted to help Lucky, to help ease his mind, she’d do whatever he needed.
“One day I just snapped and attacked Helena. I held her life in my hands, literally. My hand circled her neck and I just tightened and tightened until I just couldn’t do it anymore. It wasn’t my nature, no matter how much I wanted Helena dead I couldn’t kill her myself. Needless to say she didn’t take to kindly to my actions and . . .”
Lucky slowly faced Liz, his eyes glistening with tears as he spoke. He sought comfort in her understanding gaze, amazed it was there, frightened he would erase it all in a minute.
“She called in doctors. Two to be exact. Dr. Clayton was the shrink, he wasn’t too bad. That’s not saying he didn’t seriously try to mess with my mind, but he was basically something I could fight. I annoyed the hell out of him, but nothing really bad ever happened. I even think the good doctor took pity on me after a while. I’d have taken a million twisted soul-defining sessions with Dr. Clayton over Dr. Kerros.
“Dr. Jane, where do I start with her?” Lucky asked bitterly. The look in his eyes was something that Elizabeth never saw before. It was so detached, so full of regret and hatred. “Helena believed that all of a young man’s urges were all connected. It didn’t matter if it was hunger, or violence or . . . she surmised that everything could be controlled using the same method. That’s where Dr. Jane came in, to satiate my urges if you will.
“I was at first appalled. This wasn’t how I wanted my first time, with a glorified hooker who had the title of doctor. But then I saw her . . . she was like a fifteen-year-old boy’s fantasy. Sexy, willing, and she looked at me not like the girls I knew did. She looked at me like I was something to desire, like she really wanted it. I was skinny and sort of awkward, but when I was around her I felt like a man. I didn’t realize how much Helena and her army of doctors and guards and Dr. Clayton messed me up until it happened.”
Lucky paused, swallowing hard. He didn’t want to continue with his story but couldn’t stop. He also couldn’t bare to look at Elizabeth, afraid of what he would see.
“It just happened, you know? One second I was saying ‘No, this isn’t right, we don’t love each other’ being all noble and shit. Next thing I know it’s over and . . . it was just over. It happened about every couple of months or so. I was always threatened . . . sex or a beating. I wanted to fight both, and just run away. But then they started threatening Maria, I couldn’t let that happen. So . . . sex hurt a hell of a lot less than what Helena’s guards would do to me. So, for the last 4 or so years, I’ve been voluntarily sleeping with Dr. Jane Kerros in order to save the only mother I ever knew, in order to save my skin.”
“No you didn’t,” Elizabeth blurted out.
Lucky laughed bitterly, “No Elizabeth, I did. But I don’t blame you if you’re disgusted with me, I’m disgusted with me.”
“That’s not what I mean,” Elizabeth said confidently. She took his shaking hand into hers and forced Lucky to look at her. “You didn’t sleep with her voluntarily Lucky. You were forced to, it was . . . it was . . .”
“Rape? Do rape victims enjoy it? Don’t they fight? Aren’t they scared? I wasn’t, I wasn’t . . .”
“You didn’t fight, you didn’t because you were scared Lucky. You have nothing to be ashamed of, what Helena and that bitch Kerros did to you was unthinkable. You were just a young boy, you had your innocence stolen, but that wasn’t your fault. And I still love you.”
“Why? After what I told you . . . why did I ever come here? Why did I fall for my brother’s girl and get everyone involved in this mess? You’d all be happy and content and your lives wouldn’t be messed up if I had the strength to stay away.”
“You’ve only made my life better Lucky. And I’m sure Luke and Laura and Lulu feel the same exact way. All my life I knew there was someone out there, someone I was meant to be with . . . but I was afraid I’d never meet him. Then you walk into the courtyard at Kelly’s and everything changed, everything changed. I said I’d stand by you and I didn’t lie.”
“You don’t want to sleep with me anymore though, you couldn’t.”
I didn't hear you leave, I wonder how am I still here
I don't want to move a thing, it might change my memory
Oh I am what I am
I'll do what I want
But I can't hide
I won't go
I won't sleep
I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
“Stop thinking for me Lucky,” she whispered. “I want to make love to you now, more than ever. I want to be your true first. I want to help you understand how beautiful of a man you are, no matter what you think.”
“I don’t know what I did to deserve you,” Lucky said hoarsely.
“I love you,” she told him.
Without any sort of pause she pulled his face down to hers in a long, languid kiss that seemed to put them both on another plane. He could feel her tiny hands roaming his body thoughtfully, pulling his shirttails from his jeans as they somehow made their way up the stair to the spare bedroom. Lucky wasn’t exactly sure how they managed to get there without falling, without breaking their kiss, but they did.
Once in the bedroom Lucky felt bolder, totally caught up in the moment. Gently he fingered the bottom of her shirt and pulled it up over her head as she lifted her arms to make it easier. Lucky stopped for a moment, taking in her body, wanting to touch every inch of it.
Elizabeth then took it upon her to start removing his clothing while he gifted her with the sweetest kisses imaginable. She tossed his shirt off to the side, quickly running her fingers over his fine chest and finally grabbing his perfectly toned arms as he worked on removing her shorts.
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me
Lucky trailed a line of kisses from her neck down to her waist. As he moved further south Elizabeth ran her hands through his golden brown hair as he sent her into a fit of euphoric pleasure.
“This is no fair,” she teased as she reclined back on the bed, totally naked. Lucky looked up expectantly, a serious look on his face. “I’ve got nothing on, but you still have those jeans on . . .”
“Oh well . . .” he muttered a bit nervously. Elizabeth sat up and quickly went to work unbuckling his belt and then pulling at the zipper on his Levi’s. While she slowly made work of his jeans, Lucky allowed his hands to work her body, somewhat distracting her from the task at hand.
His jeans dropped to the floor, which he quickly stepped out of. Then, without much hesitation, she pulled his boxers down, admiring the gift God gave him.
“Much better,” she mumbled as she pulled Lucky back down on top of her into another searing kiss.
As they kissed Lucky did what he could to give her as much pleasure as possible, and she tried the same, but he managed to continually distract her.
“You are so beautiful Elizabeth, I love you so much,” he managed to get out in between kisses.
“Mm, I never loved anymore more,” she told him. “But Lucky . . .”
“Hmm?”
“I want more … I want you inside of me, please,” she asked, knowing he would gladly comply.
“Are you sure?”
I don't want to call my friends, they might wake me from this dream
And I can't leave this bed, risk forgetting all that's been
Oh I am what I am
I'll do what I want
She answered by kissing him hard on the mouth, giving him all the answer he needed.
Swiftly and gently he slid inside of her, their movements working together giving and receiving pleasure at the same time. They fit absolutely perfectly, as though they were made for each other, made to be together.
Lucky’s movements quickened once he felt Elizabeth begin to climax. He couldn’t help but smile as she said his name in ecstasy. She wrapped her arms tightly around his slight torso, never wanting it to stop. And it didn’t, not for a few minutes. As he moved inside her, sending himself to a point of ecstasy, of total contentment, he hardly believed it.
As if not to spoil the moment Lucky was hesitant to open his eyes, but he had to, he had to look at her. What he saw was the most perfect image ever.
Elizabeth was staring right back at him, her eyes so full of love and desire he didn’t think it possible. Gently she took his face in her hands and pulled him nearer, kissing him softly, deepening as they moved together.
But I can't hide
I won't go
I won't sleep
I can't breathe
Until you're resting here with me
As their lips parted Elizabeth looked into his sensitive blue eyes, smiling as she wiped a tear from his cheek. “Why are you crying?”
“Because, you are . . .this is . . . I’ve never been happier, promise me it won’t end?” his voice was whispered and his breathing labored, but it couldn’t hide how he felt. He was never happier and more frightened at the same time.
He didn’t want the moment to end, he didn’t want the feeling he had inside to go away. But it couldn’t last forever. That was something he learned long ago, that happiness, contentment, innocence doesn’t last forever. People grow up, corruption seeps in, heartbreak occurs.
But until then, he’d enjoy this, he’d be happy. He’d have the one person he wanted and needed most. He’d be whole.
I won't leave
I can't hide
I cannot be
Until you're resting here with me.
**Penthouse 4**
“I’m thinking politics will be the next avenue I undertake,” Carly explained as she and Sonny sat down to dinner.
Sonny looked up at her, his face wrought with confusion. “What? Did you say something?”
Carly smirked at her . . .whatever Sonny was to her. She picked up her fork and snagged a bean, popping it into her mouth thoughtfully before speaking. “I was thinking, maybe I can run for city council or something. No wait, mayor, yeah, I’d like to be mayor of Port Charles.”
“What about the restaurant?” Sonny asked, unsure of why he was even having this conversation.
“I’ve already done the interesting part . . . I’m for a new challenge, you know?” Carly mused as she continued to think. “I can be mayor, don’t you think? Hell, if Luke can be mayor, I can. I’m just not sure which party I’d be affiliated with. I’m thinking I can run on the independent ticket . . .or start my own party? Mob Molls United? Sound good?”
“Carly that’s just . . . what the hell are you talking about?”
Carly snapped her fingers in front of Sonny’s face, “I was asking if everything for the fake wedding is set. What did you think I was saying?”
Sonny’s face paled as he realized he had been imagining the entire thing. “Nothing, I just have a lot of . . .stuff on my mind. Go on.”
“Has Kevin given you a prescription for something? Are you taking drugs Sonny? Because you are seriously acting strange lately,” Carly chuckled as she poked at her stake.
“We need to talk,” Sonny said seriously. “I think we need to define exactly what our relationship is and where it stands.”
Carly blinked at him, “What? Now not only are you acting weird, but you are starting to sound like Dr. Collins.” Carly regarded Sonny’s serious expression and sighed, “What do we need to figure out? We enjoy the others company, have incredible sex, actually trust each other, I think our relationship is strong and healthy . . .for us.”
“That’s not what I mean Carly. Sure, Kevin has a part to play in this, but I’m sure we both would have come to this realization ourselves sooner or later. What I’m getting at is, what is this relationship? Friendship, casual sex, something more?”
“Something more . . . I thought you felt the same way?”
Sonny sighed, lowering his eyes before looking up into Carly’s. “I do, I really do . . . but my history with relationships hasn’t been the best. Things with Lily and Hannah were just . . .mistakes. And then Brenda, she was totally self destructive for me. Don’t get me wrong, I really did love her, but in the end we’d have destroyed each other, you know? And then you . . . how am I to know that things won’t change if Jason ever returns?”
Carly nodded, understanding where Sonny was coming from. Therapy was beneficial for both of them, it allowed them to express, at least to each other, some things they never would have. And it helped them to realize some things they would normally repress.
“I think Jason for me is like Brenda was for you. I do love him, probably always will, but we . . . he always said we weren’t good for each other. And it took falling . . . it took a lot of things for me to realize he was right, that I wanted this idealized version of Jason, someone who doesn’t exist. What I need is someone real, someone who is flawed and who accepts my flaws . . .someone more like you,” she finished, a content smile on her face.
“Me too, I think we work well together, we fit you know?” Sonny reached across the table, taking her hand into his. He looked into her accepting eyes and smiled, flashing her his devastating dimples. “What did we just do here?”
“I think we became a couple . . . officially. Now everyone is really going to talk!”
The Docks
Landon slumped against the bench, weary from the last few weeks of wedding planning. He wasn’t one for parties in the first place, but to be planning a wedding to a woman who didn’t love him, loved his brother instead, was tiring him out.
Not to mention he was, on some level, questioning everything he had believed about himself. It was frustrating as all hell. He had spent so much of his life with a few hard-set beliefs. But Lucky comes to town and turns everything on its head.
“Good looks must run in the family,” a woman purred, startling Landon enough to make him jump off the bench.
“What?” he grunted at her, staring blankly.
Jane smiled, stepping close enough to run her fingers along his jaw line. “Why couldn’t I have had access to both you Spencer boys? We could have had so much fun.”
“Don’t touch me,” Landon snapped, stepping back. “Who are you?”
“Ask your brother, I know him intimately,” Jane noted with a sick smile. Landon only stared ahead blankly, nearly infuriating the woman, “I’m his doctor and you are incredibly naive.”
“At least he’s not a sadistic bitch who works for my grandmother,” Nikolas’s voice came from the top of the stairs. Landon smiled at him gratefully. “You’ve already tormented Lucky, what more could you want? Trying to work your way through all three of us? After Landon, is it me Dr. Kerros? Does Helena know about your extra-curricular activities?”
“My, my, you’re a feisty one, aren’t you? How do you know so much about me there young prince?”
“Didn’t you get the memo, I’m not the prince. Amazingly though, so many people still treat me like one. How the hell else do you think I know about you? I’ve got more power, more influence over my grandmother’s staff than anyone could imagine. Maybe it’s time I became a true Cassadine, how would you like that?”
Jane stepped towards Nikolas, placing her hand in the center of his chest. “Helena was right, you are nothing like your pathetic father. You have strength and dignity . . .”
“I’m everything Stefan taught me to be. Now unless you want to learn what I inherited from my uncles, and my grandmother, and every other Cassadine there was . . .I’d leave,” Nikolas warned. “And don’t even think of whining to Helena about this, because I will come after you and you will pay.”
“This isn’t the end of the war Nikolas, it’s just begun. The sooner you and your brothers realize that and understand your destines, the sooner the better. I have no real allegiance to Helena or anyone, but soon you’ll have to choose sides. Just a warning, fair prince,” Jane said thoughtfully as she strode away, casting one last glance at Landon.
Landon turned to his older brother, waiting an explanation. “What does she have to do with Lucky?”
“More than you want to know Landon, so let it drop,” Nikolas advised as he began to walk away.
“No,” Landon shouted. “Lucky is my brother too, I want to know what that woman has to do with him. I’m not that stupid, I can tell they were . . .involved somehow. But how?”
“It’s not my story to tell Landon, and I’m sure you are one of the last people Lucky wants to know. So let it go, please. Just be grateful I saved you from having to spend another minute with that woman. Ok?”
Landon grabbed Nikolas’s arm as he turned to walk away. “I didn’t ask you to save me Nikolas. I didn’t ask for any of this, but I am going to figure out what is going on. Something more than anyone is willing to say aloud, but I’m going to figure it out. Next time, go play white night for someone who needs it, ok?” Landon turned and stormed away, leaving Nikolas rather confused.
The Cottage
“Stefan, hurry up, Nikolas will be home soon,” Sarah complained as she came down the stairs into the living room she shared with Nikolas.
“That is why I’m here Sarah, to visit my son,” Stefan explained calmly as he slowly made his way down the stairs. He slipped on his jacket and smiled at the young woman. “You are the one who distracted me . . . do you realize how dangerous that could have been?”
“Well,” Sarah cooed, looking at him with an evil glint in her eye. “You didn’t think so ten minutes ago.”
“This mustn’t happen anymore, I’m serious.”
“Really? I have such a hard time deciphering when you aren’t,” Sarah said playfully.
“I love Nikolas more than anything, and if he found out about . . .us, he’d hate me.”
“Ugh, you two are so alike,” Sarah grunted. “When Nikolas and I first became involved he wanted to stop it because I was with Landon and he would forgive himself if he hurt his brother. And now you are doing the same thing. My God, why don’t you two put yourself first once, stopping worrying about everyone else and just enjoy yourself.”
“Would you leave Nikolas for me?” Stefan asked, still masking his emotions.
“What do you think?”
“What do I think? Miss Webber, do you really want to know?” Stefan challenged, tired of the young woman’s games. Sure, he was a man and had needs, but sex with Sarah wasn’t enough to put with her incessant game playing. “I think you are a manipulative little harlot who has played high and mighty and innocent while your sister is painted as the trouble maker. I think you like to come between two men and see what trouble you can cause. You my dear are a first class bitch and I do not want to spend another moment in your company. Good day!”
With that Stefan stormed out of the cottage, hopeful he finally ended a relationship he never wanted in the first place. He let out a shaky sigh, if Sarah Webber could manipulate him into almost destroying his son what did that mean about him? Was he vulnerable to Helena, could she get to him this easily? He could only hope not.
Penthouse Hallway
Maria stepped off the elevator, coming face to face with a grinning Francis. “What is it?” she asked with a laugh.
“I’ve been told to ask you to stay over with Mr. Corinthos until . . . until you are given further notice,” he explained nervously, straightening his tie.
“Now Francis, why would that be? Is my son . . .Lucky,” she corrected herself quickly, “Is he in there? With Miss Webber?”
“Yes, and she said they had . . .wedding plans to go over.”
“Wedding plans? The bride and the groom’s brother? I’m sure those are some crucial plans,” Maria noted with a laugh. “Sonny and Carly aren’t making plans about the wedding are they?”
“Nah, you can go right in,” Francis said with a grin as he pointed across the hall.
“Thanks,” she said and went for the door. She opened it to find Sonny and Carly slow dancing in the living room. They looked up at her innocently. “Sorry, Francis said . . .”
“That’s alright Maria,” Carly tried, calling out to her friend.
“We know that there are . . .wedding plans going on next door,” Sonny added with a laugh as he turned down the stereo.
“Do Lucky and Elizabeth know that your entire staff knows they are . . .making wedding plans?” Maria wondered.
“Probably not. But they deserve all the time in the world to be alone, I think,” Carly commented with a sigh. “To be young and in love . . .”
“If only it were that easy for them,” Sonny frowned. “So, everything alright at the restaurant?”
Maria nodded, shooting a pointed glance at Carly, “Everything is perfect, except for the smart busy doctor constantly making appearances because . . .why did you call Steven again Carly?”
“I . . .well . . .I needed . . . stop complaining he’s hot, he likes you, and I’m not too experienced with this friendship thing, give me a break,” Carly pleaded, getting Maria and Sonny to laugh.
“Well, never did I think when I came to Port Charles after Lucky that I’d become friends with his cousin who wants me to become involved with the girl he love’s brother. Talk about confusing!”
Penthouse 2
Liz rolled over on the bed, her eyes searching the room for Lucky. He was standing by the window, his back to her. He wore only his boxers as he leaned against the window, his left arm above his head. She sighed, he was absolutely beautiful. Totally perfect. Never in her life did Elizabeth think she could feel about someone like she did Lucky. But she did and she couldn’t imagine it ever ending.
“What happens when dreams come true?” he whispered, almost as if he was asking a higher power. He turned to Elizabeth, his blue eyes flashing with happiness, but looking deeper she could see something more, she could see a hesitant fear. “Have you ever asked yourself that?”
Liz shrugged her shoulders as she leaned back onto the bed, pulling the covers around her. “I don’t know . . . I never really dreamed about anything before. I was always more of an in the moment person. Putting too much stock in what might happen only ever led to heartbreak for me.”
Lucky sighed, sitting down next to her. He touched her cheek softly, “It’s ok to dream now. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure your heart isn’t broken. I’ll protect it with everything in me,” he whispered. He leaned forward and kissed her. “All my life I dreamed of a better life, of finally being happy. But it never seemed like I could ever reach it. Until now, until that day I met you. Everything fell into place and I finally found something that felt familiar. I know this is going to sound crazy Elizabeth, but I can’t help but think we were meant to be, that this was something predetermined.”
“Like soul mates,” Elizabeth whispered, running her fingers through his short brown hair with a smile. “I know the road ahead is going to be rough, but I can’t help but think we’ll make it . . .together.”
“Together, I like the sound of that.”
“Even if I’m marrying your brother in a week,” Liz groaned the sudden realization of the immediate future setting in.
“But your not . . . it’s not real,” he said happily. “If it were, when the priest says ‘does anyone object’ I’d have to jump out of my seat and stop the wedding, even if it was my idea.”
“We’ll get through this . . .maybe Landon can even come out of this happier,” Liz said. Even though she couldn’t imagine being with anyone else at this point, she really did feel terribly for hurting Landon. They had been through a lot together, she hated that it was ending so terribly.
“How did Emily take it when you told her about the wedding?” Lucky asked, anxious to change the subject.
“I think she was shocked when she stopped laughing, then happy when she realized how happy I am with you. I’m so glad you let me tell her . . .it’s bad enough my brother and gram think I’m really marrying Landon, I hate lying to Em.”
Lucky nodded, “What about Sarah? Don’t you care that she thinks you are still oh so in love with Landon?”
Liz shrugged as she chewed on her lip thoughtfully, “Let Sarah think what she wants, I really don’t care anymore. We’ve tried to be sisters, we have but . . . it never really took. You know?”
“I think I know the feeling,” Lucky empathized. He moved over her, kissing her softly and then more passionately. “Maria should be getting in soon, we better . . .”
“Back to reality, huh?” Elizabeth complained with a smile.
“Back to the real world, unfortunately. But I have an idea,” Lucky said thoughtfully as he jumped off the bed and pulled his jeans on. Elizabeth dressed silently, disappointedly watching Lucky get dressed. “Once this wedding mess is over and we find a way to neutralize Helena . . .why don’t we go away or something? Just you and me, you know some time alone to really get to know each other. What would you say about that?”
“I’d say . . . what do you think? Yes, I want to be with you as much as possible,” she told him earnestly, climbing across the bed and pulling him into a final embrace.
Port Charles Grille
V entered the restaurant, tired and frustrated. Her research was getting nowhere. Granted, she had no idea what she was researching so she was already at a disadvantage. What she did know was that Helena Cassadine was up to something and that her grandson, Nikolas was looking to uncover it. Instinct, and having lived in Port Charles off and on for the last 3 years, told her that the Spencers were also involved. She was especially concerned about Lucky’s involvement. He was a charming, sensitive young man and she just knew he was at the center of whatever was about to go down.
Granted, if it wasn’t the Spencer/Cassadine war she was sent to work on then she was at an even greater disadvantage. Since arriving she hadn’t even begun to think about looking into the other possible shifty goings on of the city. For all she knew, she could be there to bring down an international drug ring or something entirely different.
“It’s their own fault for being so damn cryptic,” V grumbled as she sat on the stool at the end of the bar. “Manhattan, please.”
“Rough day,” the man next to her asked.
She didn’t look at him, her attention at the television over the bar. The travel channel was on and it was showing a tour of an old church in Madrid. “What I wouldn’t give for a vacation. I’d like to go there.”
“But aren’t you here for a reason?”
V turned to the man, an instant frown on her face. He wore all black and a pair of sunglasses. His dark hair was combed backwards and he smirked at her handsomely. “Expecting a stranger?”
“Well, I’d classify you as a stranger . . .stranger than most people,” she retorted, returning his smirk. “What are you doing here?”
“Back up.”
V groaned, “What?”
“Why am I strange?”
“Because you are wearing sunglasses in doors, for one . . .Leo, you know I could go into a laundry list of details, must I?”
Leo shook his head, smiling casually, “Nah, my eccentricities make me cool.”
“Whatever, now answer my question.”
“Demanding aren’t we? You’d never guess I was the captain and you were the …”
“Grunt?” she sneered. “Captain Leo, are you checking up on me?”
“I’m here to help.”
“With . . .” she prompted, hoping he’d know what the case was.
“Details, details …”
“Alistar!”
“Ok, it’s Helena Cassadine . . . and we are finally going to bring her down.”
Monaco
Jason stood on the beach, flipping a stone out into the water. He wasn’t lost in thought, he wasn’t dwelling on his worries, he was just looking out at the water.
It was so long since he had been to Port Charles, and one short week he’d be going home. He wasn’t sure if his connection to Moreno’s death had been figured out, but he couldn’t worry about that. He had to get home. They both did.
Little did he know that when he went on the run he’d find the one person he wasn’t looking for. One day in Rome he saw her sitting at a corner table by herself. She was reading an American newspaper and wearing sunglasses, but even then he knew who she was. She was the type of woman you could spot in a crowd of many. When he approached he half expected she wouldn’t remember him or anything, but she did. They spent the next few weeks together just talking, about Port Charles, what was going on in her life, about everything.
And now it was time to go back and change everything.
As if everything wasn’t already changed.
“Hey Jason, are you coming to the casino with me?”
He turned around, smiling at the woman approaching him. “Nah, I’d much rather stay in tonight . . .with you,” he murmured, pulling her into a deep kiss.
“But Jase . . .”
“Come on Brenda, we only have a few more days left in anonymity, let’s take it all in. Soon we go back to Port Charles and have to deal with all that, let’s just relax on the beach till then.”
Brenda sighed, resting her head on Jason’s capable shoulder. “I really can’t argue with you, you know that?”
Jason smiled, kissing the top of her head softly. In one week Jason Morgan and Brenda Barrett would be going back to Port Charles and nothing would be the same.
