Subject: Wake up my girl, I got something to say to you.. we've been knocked down and I don't know what's left to do..

He had stumbled out of bed to get the phone, which was, conveniently in the other room - pulling on a pair of pants, he had dropped a kiss to her forehead and a breif conversation had ensued, a couple of curses muttered, and now he stood in the kitchen, his fingers pressed to his temples, his eyes closed - a couple of tears shedding for the man he had loved as much as his own father. He took a couple of deep breaths, composed himself, and then returned to the bedroom.

He had had the foresight to bring a glass of water with him and some of her pills. He reached to the bedside table, slipping on his glasses now that he had dried his eyes, and doled out the painkillers for her, sitting up on the side of the bed, with his back to her, he turned, a gentle hand resting on her stomach.
