Subject: Ward did not kill the dog.....
In reply to: AS 's message, "It was such a mixed bag." on Wednesday, May 07, 03:51:02pm

Ward shot into the air to make Buddy run off.

Then you see the dog in the cross-hairs of the rifle. The rifle was with Ward not Garrett. The cross-hairs were tracking the dog but then fell behind it and you hear Ward initiate the dropping of the pod (or whatever you want to call it). But he couldn't have killed the dog if he shot at that time because the gunsights were off behind the dog.

In short, Ward was doing for the dog what he did for Fitz and Simmons, running the dog off, giving it a chance to live.

As he said as he did it - I do care.

Because it's very possible that scene with the rifle was meant to show Ward hesitating just before he swung the crosshairs ahead and killed the dog. Just like he hesitated before potentially sending FitzSimmons to their death. Fans are seeing more than one outcome to both scenes, I am still pretty sure that killing Buddy was another baby step in becoming Garrett's right hand killer.

And it's good to have a little bit of moral ambiguity to the characters, it makes them a little more relatable usually. I just don't want the path he follows leading to some kind of whitewashing in the long run. One Spike per Joss, hopefully

.......... send your 2 'former' friends carreening into the ocean from a plane and think that you are doing them a favor. But I think that is exactly what Ward thought he was doing, giving them a chance to live.

in real life they would both either be dead or very seriously injured, potentially drowning before rescue. However since that would leave the team down to four members, Tripp's tracking device will allow them to be rescued in time for at least one of them to survive.

I discussed this with Ali for a bit, you could almost portray Ward as a victim of Stockholm Syndrome but he could have walked out of the woods with Buddy at any point. So he let himself be indoctrinated and turned into Garrett's bitch of his own accord. He just doesn't seem to realize how he's become someone who would have completely disgusted his former team members if they had the faintest idea of what he truly was. Skye did pretty good leading him on long enough to get to the cafe, IMHO
