If they show me love back I'm so happy and if not I still love them and I'm happy because I love them.

I guess it's the way love goes.

Out of the 14 or so cats I've owned over the past 32 years, only two would not come if we called their names, Junior and Marble being the two in question. Marble was a small tortiseshell kitten we adopted when we lost Audrey early to cancer-she was Andy's cat but always walked alone and in fact left us when she was only a couple of years old. Junior was part of the litter born in our garden shed and was very much his own man, mostly because we initially planned on keeping only his sister Elsa and he never really got the chance to emotionally bond to any of us before we decided to keep him. He liked being petted but never sought it out, despite being very chubby he was an excellent hunter who liked to eat his kill and thought of himself as being a watcher, not a lap cat.

Conversely, every other cat we have had have been very affectionate, chummy and comes when you call, even Cole who likes to think of himself as being superior to all other pets in the house. In fact despite the current heatwave up here, he walked over just now to give me some kisses on the wrist and is sitting right next to my hip, very happy to demonstrate he's my buddy and my guardian...anytime I am outside in my veggie garden he's right there watching my every move, even if it's from the bathroom window!

My cats have always pretty much cared, not sure if it's the ones we chosen or how they are cared for around here but while they may not be candidates for a walk like the dogs are, they sit and watch us do chores, sleep with us (the kids each have cats who share with them-we find it quieter to just have the dogs in the bedroom at night) and they all love being part of watching tv, being on the computer or snuggling while we read a good book.

Rescued animals have been my thing.

From my sweet little Lucky to Bijou and now all my loved ones...Havoc, Pixel, Caelan and Brindle.

They all come when called and talk to me when I speak to them.

My old vet (retired now) from back in the day, once told me there is no life more wonderful than that of a well loved cat. I tend to agree with him.

Although, as I get older I seem to be more interested and attracted to the 4-legged and winged animals much more than the 2-legged variety.

From what I understand, the study pointed out that cats are smart and do understand, but don't necessarily do as they are told.

I think that cats undersand a lot of our spoken language, but sometimes they do ignore what we say when they don't feel like it. They'd rather have us to what THEY want! Cats are not servile.

But they do care about us, it's obvious. I've lived with cats for 35 years so I know how much love they can give to the humans they own.

I'm pretty sure that Léto already loves me, and she comes when I call her. Even Tibère who is still so afraid of being petted cares about what I say. When I call his name and tell him not to scratch the chair in the living room, he immediately stops...
