Lovely breed, the last time I saw one was at a lure coursing event here, a little bashful but otherwise the picture of grace...

Sad day here, we're taking Ali's cat Murphy into the vet office to be euthanised. He would have turned 17 in May, obviously in his case the mean and grouchy ones live longer. He's stopped trying to beat up the other cats (and dogs) which is the sure sign he's reached the end of the road. Considering he's Ali's oldest friend (since the crib) and her constant protector, we're going to miss him a lot.

.....17 years is a good life for a cat. My first cat only lived 2 years.

One we sometimes fed around the geology building at Texas A&M found its way into the basement core room and had a litter of kittens there. We took care of them for a while (and cleaned up after them - Dr Berg noted the smell). Then we gave the kittens away in front of the geology building. Meanwhile the mother took a liking to me. But after she sat on my lap that first time in my office I knew something was wrong with her though. The fellow I shared the office with had an aunt who would take her and give her any needed medical care. But just feeling her belly I knew something was very much wrong. I sat with her for about a half hour and finally coaxed her into the cardboard kitty carrier they had provided and settled her down. I knew it was the last time I would see her but I was also was sure she wouldn't leave the vet. I was right.

She was brave for him and the worst of the tears came after he was gone...he hated it when she cried.
